The Bar Association is a self regulatory body and the voice of legal professionals in Rwanda. The Bar organizes Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for its membership as well as various legal aid and pro bono activities.
Today a strong desire has grown for the Bar Association to be a stronger actor in the Justice Sector, Private Sector and Civil Society by promoting access to quality justice for all and enhancing the quality of the legal profession through regulations, discipline and Continuing Legal Education (CLE).
After a number of years of informal management, the Bar Association created a Secretariat in 2009 comprising a number of permanent staff. It is against this background that the Kigali Bar Association is seeking to recruit a competent Rwandese national for the position of the `Professional Development Officer´ to support the Secretariat in the daily KBA management. The Program Development (PDO) shall report to the KBA Executive Secretary and his/her duties shall include:
- Assisting the Secretariat in the development of profitable projects for the KBA;
- Assisting in Projects and courses design to address Lawyer\\\'s training gaps;
- Coordinating & Evaluating the KBA legal aid and Pro bono services & initiatives;
- Developing & maintaining on a daily basis a database records for pro bono & legal aid dossiers entrusted to lawyers;
- Organizing the training seminars for lawyers in collaboration with KBA partners;
- Periodically evaluate KBA member´s needs and inform strategies for the Bar to adopt in order to ensure continued satisfaction and appreciation by its members;
- Developing and maintaining database of reliable and authentic information on the members of the Kigali Bar Association;
- Assisting in Handling members´ and clients correspondences to ensure that their concerns and inquires are adequately addressed;
- Preparing and submitting of monthly, quarterly and annual activity work plans and progressive reports to the Executive Secretary;
- Any other lawful duties as may be assigned by the Executive Secretary and/or the President of the Bar.
- Rwandan by Nationality;
- Bachelors Degree in Law with proven experience of at least two years in the legal field;
- Fair skills in projects/program management will be an added value;
- A comprehensive understanding of legal aid provision & legal profession in Rwanda;
- At least 2 years of experience in designing and implementing legal aid services and with sufficient skills in legal policy analysis
- Experience in working in access to justice institutions.
- Knowledge of the relevant national, regional and international, legal policy on legal aid and legal education.
- Strong analytical skills, the ability to present data in a clear and precise way.
- The ability to work with strict targets and deadlines.
- High level of writing, understating and speaking proficiency in both English & French while understanding of the other language will be an additional advantage.
- Ability to analyze and make summary;
- Good command in basic computer applications (word, spreadsheet & power point processing)
