CHF is seeking a Child Labor Technical Specialist for a proposed 4-year, $10 million Department of Labor-funded project to combat child labor in Tanzania. This project will reduce child labor in Tanzania through an area-based approach in geographic areas where there is a prevalence of child labor in agriculture production and domestic service. It will work with local entities and build on existing efforts to reduce the worst forms of child labor, including programs to protect orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), increase access to education and promote economic opportunities for Tanzanian households most vulnerable to the worst forms of child labor.
The Child Labor Technical Specialist is responsible for providing specialized leadership and guidance on child labor issues. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance to government agencies or units, such as the LGA and CLU and community stakeholders. S/he will work closely with local coordinators and stakeholders to develop district child labor plans.
Qualifications: •3+ years of experience in a leadership position responsible for policy development and advocacy of child protection issues, including child labor, where possible •Knowledge of policies and programs related to child labor •Experience working with civil society, including labor unions and NGOs on the issue of child labor or other labor related issues specifically targeting underserved populations •Experience providing direct technical support to the district and national government authorities •Experience in statistics and development of monitoring systems (national and/or local) •Previous experience working in Tanzania and/or East Africa •Fluency in spoken English required •Second language experience preferred; knowledge of local languages preferred but not required
