Director – Balsillie School of International Affairs

The Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA) is an institute for advanced research, education and outreach on global governance. An equal collaboration among the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), the University of Waterloo (UW), and Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU), BSIA is unmatched in its ability to promote vigorous engagement across boundaries of discipline and practice, to connect today’s experts with tomorrow’s leaders in critical debate and analysis, and to achieve—in all its work—the highest standards of excellence.

As Director, you will build and innovate, and draw on your many skills to create one of the world’s most innovative, academic institutions in international affairs. You will develop and promote a compelling and shared vision of interdisciplinary collaboration and scholarly excellence where different approaches to tackle global issues are embraced and encouraged. Your leadership mandate will include Board and stakeholder relations, organizational design, strategic/operational planning, resource development and management, issues management, and partnership building.

As the ideal candidate, you are an inspiring leader and skilled manager with the academic credibility and international stature to deliver on BSIA’s vision. You are respected for your diplomacy and openness as well as your ability to achieve consensus, promote a common purpose, foster a sense of community and establish an atmosphere of trust, collegiality and transparency. Throughout your career you have created visibility for your institution and built strong collaborations with partners. Having worked in an academic milieu, you appreciate its complexities, and value and celebrate the fundamental role academe plays in society.
