SCOPE OF WORK:
The Advisor will build the capacity of staple crop business by building marketing capacity and identifying and providing solutions to key constraints to private sector development.
In order to effectively complete these objectives the Business Development Center Advisor will be responsible for the following activities:
• Help PHHS create and/or strengthen an advocacy platform for the stapes private sector stakeholders.
• Establish relationships with key stakeholders in selected value chains that helps facilitate and improve postharvest handling activities between public/private sector
• Develop innovative approaches to facilitate transactions between the public/private sector that can be sustained beyond the project’s life cycle.
• Instigate and implement the PHHS grants program in close association with the Deputy Chief of party (DCOP) to address quality standards, grading, delivery options and other new technologies that will generate new (or increased) revenues for both end commodity buyers and smallholder farmers
• Identify trainings that help traders, producer cooperatives, millers, and processors efficiently run their businesses
• Facilitate workshops, events (e.g., trade fairs) and meetings that will establish dialog, training and investment opportunities between key stakeholders in agricultural value chain and smallholder farmers.
Qualifications
• University degree required; Masters or MBA degree in economics and/or agriculture preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in agriculture (staple crops), particularly in the private sector; prior work with MINAGRI preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of and/or experience in grants implementation and business development services preferred.
Working Relationships
The Advisor will report directly to and coordinate all activities with the Chief of Party for the PHHS project based in Kigali, Rwanda. In addition the advisor will work closely with the Deputy COP to complete PHHS deliverables.
