Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Advocacy and Legal Advice Centres (ALAC) empower victims and witness of corruption to address their grievances, strengthen the ability and willingness of relevant institutions to receive and act upon corruption related complaints and to bring about systemic improvements (legal, administrative and institutional) in the fight against corruption.
The Africa and Middle East Department (AFME) is one of the four regional departments of Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S) and is made up of two sub-regions: the Sub-Sahara Africa sub-region and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) sub-region. Staff in the AFME department facilitates the effective provision of support to TI National Chapters and related programmes.
The Project Coordinator will mainly coordinate the three-year 2,6M € EC-funded project, coordinating and supporting the establishment, operations and sustainability of the 5 francophone ALAC in Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal and Cameroun. The PC will work in close cooperation with the members of the Africa team in Berlin.
This position requires project coordination, analytical, organisation, fundraising and intercultural communication skills.
Responsibilities:
1. Project coordination:
- Writing reports to donor and coordinating NCs reporting;
- Coordinating the project architecture with NCs (e.g., guidelines, templates, contracts, etc.);
- Coordination and monitoring of EC contractual provisions, budget and resource allocation, in consultation with the TI financial officer;
- Coordinating capacity building support to the NCs: Financial and project management, fundraising, etc.
- Preparation of workshops and contributing to training sessions;
- Liaise with TI M&E Coordinator to ensure appropriate and effective monitoring, evaluation and learning sharing of projects results;
- Presenting programme results to external audiences: among others donors and stakeholders;
- Facilitating the development of the ALAC network in Africa;
- Tracking, monitoring and reporting on new developments in the ALACs ; ensuring wide communication of project results;
- Responsible for day to day liaison with the donor and the NCs.
2. Contributing to fundraising efforts by the Africa department with a particular focus on raising the 25% co-funding requirement of the project
3. Collaborate and provide on-demand support within TI-S
Knowledge, experience and skills:
- University degree (BA or MA) in relevant field (law, international relations / development, public policy or business management);
- Relevant hands-on experience of multi country project coordination;
- Experience in financial project management (including financial budget management), experience with financial management of EC programmes will be considered to be a distinct advantage;
- Excellent knowledge of the Sub Sahara Africa region; field experience will be considered a distinct advantage;
- Fluency in French and English;
- Highly developed team work and intercultural communication skills;
- Ability and willingness to travel.
