CONSULTANT IN DISTANCE LEARNING (1 POSITION)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic duties
a) Designing, developing and deploying educational resources for Distance learning access such as conducting courses via video conferencing over the internet, networking, and web-casting.
b) Re-examining the programs on offer in the Department to ensure that they answer to the challenges spelt out in the Strategic Plan.
c) Marketing UMI training programmes including distributing distance learning course offerings, schedules and web sites where they can be accessed.
d) Facilitating on training programmes of the Institute.
e) Evaluating the impact of training given to participants by assessing the effectiveness of distance learning programs as input to the design and development of subsequent distance learning programs.
f) Conducting research and publishing.
g) Carrying out consultancy services to UMI Clients.
h) Supervising students carrying out research projects as part of their training.
Administrative Duties:
a) Ensuring provision of technical or logistical support/plans to distance learning including remote web-based classrooms, online chat channels for participatory sessions and online exams.
b) Communicating to Participants any change or updates to distance learning courses and materials.
c) Maintaining web sites and online databases used for distance learning programs.
d) Managing communication to distance learning participants about the course objectives, syllabus outline, online class schedules and period exams.
e) Managing activities related to distance learning with existing networks in the country, region and globe.
f) Planning and budgeting for the Department in consultation with relevant Heads- tff Department and supervisees
g) Supervising and guiding staff in performance of their duties and monitoring timely delivery of their inputs.
Requirement:
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS: a) Masters Degree in Distance Learning or a related field b) An Honors Bachelors degree in Education or a related field c) At least two years’ teaching in a University or other Institutions of higher learning will be an added advantage but those with substantial managerial experience in distance learning will be considered.
d) IT relevant qualification such as e-learning is documents
e) Demonstrated interest in education management and teaching
f) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
