Overview:
CHAI is currently seeking a highly motivated, entrepreneurial individual with outstanding problem-solving, managerial, analytical, and communication skills to support the implementation of the first phase of a malaria diagnosis operational research study. The project will be for a period of 4 months.
The first phase of the project will be a rapid baseline assessment, including a thorough literature review on health worker training models to gather evidence on best practices for behavior change communication strategies, and formative research (e.g. focus groups, participatory research, KAP surveys) to gather local knowledge and perspectives that will help to distill the challenges and barriers that health providers face when making decisions about testing and treatment for malaria. Based on findings of the baseline assessment, improved training strategies will be developed.
Responsibilities:
• Supporting project implementation including: conducting a baseline assessment (focus groups, participatory research), identifying appropriate study sites/health facilities, designing the intervention, supporting training of health workers in the different study arms. • Regularly liaising with and working under the guidance of the NMCP and CHAI Malaria Analyst • Managing the development of the baseline assessment protocol and design of data collection tools • Developing and overseeing baseline assessment processes • Conducting quality control of data as it comes in from the field • Liaising with the Government of Namibia and other stakeholders in the malaria community • Writing project reports and progress updates
Qualifications:
• Experience in social science field research • Excellent management and organizational skills • Excellent writing and communication skills • Exceptional attention to detail • Willingness to travel frequently and to do field work • Ability and willingness to work effectively in cross-cultural environments • Flexibility, self-motivation, and an ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies and to work independently • Experience in and knowledge of Africa
Advantages:
• Advanced degree in economics, public health, public policy, social sciences or related fields • Familiarity with operational research preferred • Experience with conducting focus groups and participatory research strongly preferred
