Mines Advisory Group (MAG) is currently seeking a National Community Liaison Manager (NCLM) to lead its Community Liaison team(s) in Somalia. This exciting new position will be responsible for managing one team initially with the possibility of expansion in the future.
Community Liaison (CL) is the medium through which MAG gathers, analyses and disseminates information in order to identify and implement the most effective solutions to the obstacles and dangers caused by remnants of conflict. It enables MAG to better target mine action resources to the areas of greatest need.
MAG Somalia has been operating since 2008 and currently has operations in Somaliland, Puntland and Galmudug States. The position will be based in South Galkayo, Galmudug with the possibility of expansion into other areas, including Puntland. The NCLM is expected to deploy with the teams up to 75% of the time, often to remote areas. Initially the incumbent will be responsible for the management of one CL team in addition to general duties.
The National Community Liaison Manager will work within local communities and liaise with a wide range of relevant stakeholders. Community Liaison activities vary, from capacity building local partners to designing and developing risk education curriculums. The Community Liaison Manager role can include:
- Managing the Community Liaison inputs towards project delivery
- Liaising with relevant stakeholders to provide MAG clearance teams with information regarding priority areas for operations
- Enhancing national capacity building through the design and delivery of training and coaching to national Community Liaison staff
- Designing and delivering Mine Risk Education programmes
- Designing and implementing outcome and impact assessment programmes
You will also need to be a self-starter with the desire and motivation to see through changes that can have huge impact on the lives of those affected by mines and UXO. Previous knowledge of mines/UXO is not essential. Fluency in Somalia and English is a requirement for this position in addition to at least 3 years experience in a similar position. Areas of operations will include (but is not limited to) areas in Central Somalia, including Galmudug and ASWJ. You will need to be able to deal with living and working in remote locations with basic amenities and in a challenging environment.
The NCLM will be on an initial contract of 8 month contract with the possibility of extension after a probation period of 3 months. Salary will be in line with MAG Somalia’s national salary scale and commensurate with experience.
