MAG has been working in DRC since 2004 and following a period of significant expansion, it is now one of MAG’s largest programmes. With over 200 national staff and approximately 30 international staff and 17 teams operating across the country, MAG is the largest operator in DRC, in both Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) and Conventional Weapons Management and Disposal (CWMD).
MAG is seeking a Project Manager to support MAG’s new and expanding CWMD projects in DRC. CWMD is a coordinated and integrated approach which supports states to develop sustainable solutions to armed violence and is an essential contribution to local, national and regional security and aspects of Armed Violence Reduction (AVR). Key achievements to date include the destruction of over 113,429 weapons and more than 750 tons of ammunition and gaining accreditation to destroy any weapons or ammunition judged to be dangerous, obsolete, surplus or prohibited by the international conventions to which DRC subscribes.
Based in Kinshasa and reporting to the Technical Operations Manager (CWMD), the Project Manager will have overall responsibility for day to day management and implementation of specific CWMD projects in MAG DRC. This will involve close liaison with key stakeholders including military authorities and donors on a range of developmental activities. Other responsibilities will include staff management, project development, grant and budget management, report writing, supporting and capacity building national staff and overseeing logistical requirements.
The successful candidate will need to have the ability to work within complicated national and internal political frameworks with excellent negotiation and organisation skills. You will also need experience of managing a team and managing finances, with the ability to manage project budgets efficiently and independently. In addition, the successful candidate will possess excellent report writing skills. Regional experience would be a distinct advantage, as would experience in the HMA/CWMD sector.
Please note fluency in French and English is essential for this role.
This is not a technical role and previous experience in mine action is not essential. Experienced project managers from all sectors are encouraged to apply.
