DUTY STATION: NAIROBI REPORTING TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Project Background/Description: Since 1999, FilmAid has used the unique power of film to reach large numbers of vulnerable communities with critical information in a compelling visual format, overcoming language and literacy barriers. FilmAid uses films that are both educational and entertaining to draw audiences’ attention to subjects of vital concern to their health, protection and promotes community well-being.
Position Summary: The Program Coordinator is an experienced, qualified and committed individual who will provide technical and management support to FilmAid’s programs in Kenya and other areas outside of Kenya.
Based in Nairobi, the Programs Coordinator will be a full-time member of the program team, playing a crucial role in providing strategic management for program activities for the programs in the FilmAid core response areas.
The position will play a central role in providing technical assistance that will consolidate programs. This will include working with the Program Director to generate program approaches/technical frameworks, contributing to organizational learning by documenting lessons learnt and incorporating them into programming, writing concept notes for program development and building staff capacities in line with FilmAid’s program thematic areas.
The person will also lead in the development of FilmAid specific program frameworks for different sectors as well as develop strong staff capacity in undertaking assessments and data analysis.
The position holder will report to the Program Director and principally work with Program Managers and Program Officers on day to day basis.
Responsibilities:
Lead the program team in the development of new strategies, guidelines and the identification of priority areas for Kakuma and Dadaab and in new sites.
To support program implementation as well as provide technical input to designing new programs.
Provide technical and management leadership within the program teams in Nairobi and the field to ensure that FilmAid’s programs align to the recommendations and outcomes of Annual Operations Reviews, Joint Assessment Missions reports, Impact Assessment reports and any other situational analysis undertaken in Kakuma, Dadaab and any other FilmAid project sites.
Support staff technical capacities development activities in areas such as participatory approaches, M&E, gender, peace-building, health and human rights in order to improve program quality and effective delivery of program implementation.
To ensure a community based approach and a participatory methodology is adhered to in all FilmAid field activities.
Compile monthly update reports, donor / grant reports and other reports as maybe required from time to time.
Assist the Program Director in program development activities through management of needs assessments and proposal writing.
Work with the Program Director to generate program approaches/technical frameworks that will contribute to organizational learning.
Assist in coordinating the annual country program planning activities and drawing up the Country Operations Plan (COP) and budgets.
Oversee program and administrative budgets and monitoring expenditure according to budgets.
Collect and document good practice and lessons learnt from all projects including researching new developments and innovations relevant to FilmAid’s work.
Support monitoring and evaluation activities for programs.
Perform other duties as may be required
Participate in the recruitment and induction of program and other support staff.
Represent the Country and Program Directors in agency meetings and other meetings as need arise.
Required Qualifications and Experience • Be of Kenyan nationality. • Degree in Education or international development. • At least 4 years demonstrable experience in managing education programs, including experience in proposal writing and donor reporting. • Strong Monitoring and Evaluation skills required, in particular for the development and analysis of baseline information and monitoring tools. • Experience in conducting rapid and other assessments. • Experience in budget management and knowledge of financial procedures required. • Ability to multi-task and effectively handle stressful situations. • Experience in program cycle management. • Experience in grant monitoring and reporting. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a team. • Proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, power point, and statistical packages like SPSS. • Willingness to travel extensively to the field. • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action
