DESCRIPTION: Key Roles The successful candidate shall: •a lead role in child protection programming •Oversee child protection interventions including Best Interest Assessments (BIA) and Best Interest Determination (BID) and foster care. •Ensure child participation is mainstreamed in programming •Ensure community based approaches are used in child welfare •Review BIA/BID reports and other child assessment reports from case officers for sharing with UNHCR on a timely basis •Actively participate in BIA/BID panel meetings •Maintain a data base of assisted children •Seek alternative solutions for minors by involving the Government especially the children department as well as other stakeholders. •Oversee awareness raising for interest groups like community leaders and parents on child protection •Attend to any other duties as may be assigned by the Community Development Coordinator.
Collaboration and Partnership-building
•Actively and consistency participate in the Community Development Team by taking the initiative in promoting team spirit. •Attend “Peer Supervision” sessions when organized. •Attend monthly “Supervision Sessions” with an external consultant together with the Community Development Team. •Represent GTZ at conferences, meetings and other formal discussions on child protection, as required.
Qualifications The successful candidate: •Is a degree holder in law or has an advanced degree in Sociology, Psychology or Education •Has a minimum 3 years working experience in child protection •Has additional training on child related issues •Is able to work in a multi-cultural setting
NB: Experience of working with refugees will be an added advantage
