icipe is seeking to appoint an outstanding, dynamic, and self-motivated Business Development Manager to support a major initiative targeted at reducing youth unemployment in regional Ethiopia through the deployment of icipe technologies in silk and honey production, and training in enterprise and business development. The selected candidate will be based at icipe’s Ethiopia office on the ILRI campus. This is a two-year contract, renewable after successfully completing a six-month probation period of the first contract. Job Description
The major role of the Business Development Manager will be to implement activities within the project that focus on economically improving the lives of the youth by increasing their economic self-sufficiency, confidence, and access to viable economic opportunities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Mentor and nurture the youth in a bid to improve their income through sustainable economic interventions (beekeeping and silk farming), and hence achieve financial growth and status.
- Raise the level of entrepreneurial activity among the young women, so as to catalyse the start-up of employment-generating women-owned small enterprises.
- Facilitate and coordinate youth activities, including strategic planning, leadership training, and workshops.
- Establish a strategic framework for sustainable agricultural input business development in consultation with the project management.
- Identify business/enterprise opportunities, and prospective successful business partners, in order to establish business incubation partnerships.
Requirements/Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a business field.
- Five to eight (5–8) years’ marketing experience.
- An MBA (or similar qualification) will be an added advantage.

- Strong interpersonal skills.
Reporting
This position reports to icipe’s Project Team Leader.
The selected candidate should be available to start as soon as possible.
