Save the Children Capacity Development Manager - Global Campaigns

By mid-2013 most of our international programmes will be delivered through a merged operation with 14 000 staff, managed through seven regional hubs and reporting to a relatively small, central office. We’re changing to become more efficient, more aligned, a better partner, a stronger advocate, a magnet for world-class p eople and relevant for the 21st century.


The role:
This post will enhance the global campaign by ensuring effective campaigns and advocacy delivery. It will ensure the right capacity, structure, planning and evaluation of our campaigns and advocacy in priority countries, across Save the Children International (SCI) and in newer Save the Children Member organisations.

Accountabilities:

1)Support priority countries and newer Save the Children Members to have the capacity and skills to deliver on their Campaign and advocacy objectives
• Develop a package of training on advocacy and campaigns, in coordination with members that includes a module for Country Directors.
• Support country offices and smaller member organisations to structure teams, set work plans and put in place effective systems to performance manage staff to deliver against the campaign and advoca cy metrics.
• Support the building of a world class cadre of campaign and advocacy staff around the world through support, mentoring and provision of latest developments and approaches to campaigns and advocacy
• Develop a distance learning training module on Advocacy as part of broader SCI training package to be developed with the Open University or other partner
• Support the year-round skillshare among staff in the global south (e.g. annual event, training courses, updated Advocacy training tools, webinars on latest trends)
• Support and facilitate campaign and advocacy planning, evaluations and learning
• Produce and launch a campaign guidance pack
• Wok to align advocacy and campaigning, IP and Global Initiative activities at the country level, and integrate advocacy into IP structures and processes
• Support a network of regional advocacy leads to support country level campaigning and advocacy

2) Support priority countries and newer Save the Children Members to have the resources to deliver on their campaign and advocacy objectives
• Support the creation of new proposals and case statements on campaigns and advocacy capacity to influence member funding
• Track and review resources from Save the Children members for campaigns and advocacy capacity
• Research, identify and develop new campaigns and advocacy partnerships
• Support SCI countries and new members to diagnose, plan and fundraise for campaigns and advocacy capacity
• Support the mapping of technical assistance, resources and country level

3) To contribute to the leadership and development of Save the Children becoming a global campaigns and advocacy organisation
• Support planning for future campaigns
• Active member of the Global Campaign Team
• Ensure that the Global Campaign is shaped by new data and trends in advocacy and campaigns from around the world
• Project manage work streams/discrete projects as required by the Operations Director and/or Global Campaign Director
• Carry out any duties either additional to, or instead of those outlined above which are considered to be within the individual’s level of competence.

Qualifications and experience:

• Proven success in building advocacy and campaign capacity
• Demonstrable experience in planning in line with Save the Children’s theory of change
• Experience of strategic planning with country programs
• Experience of successfully operating in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Experience of building personal networks, enabling effective outcomes.
• Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.
• Commitment to Save the Children values.
• Understanding of, and willingness to travel in, developing countries.
