Johns Hopkins University, is an international NGO supporting health
programs to improve the health of women and their families.
Jhpiego-Kenya works in
close collaboration with both the Ministry of Medical Services and the
Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in the areas of HIV, Malaria,
TB, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Reproductive Health and Family
Planning.

Project Director - CDC Pre- Service Program
Jhpiego is implementing a grant from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to strengthen HIV training at Medical Training Colleges (MTCs) in Kenya by updating the curricula and improve training skills of tutors to ensure that Pre-service MTC graduates are market-ready to provide comprehensive HIV/AIDS services.
The Project Director will
be responsible for the overall management and programmatic leadership
of the CDC Pre-service Project in Kenya.
The Project Director will
work closely with the Country Director and representatives from other
partner organizations to ensure programmatic leadership and integrity.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of the program strategy and plan for overall implementation and attainment of program goals.
- Ensure that the program is technically sound and responsive to the needs of the country.
- Provide overall leadership for the program’s technical, financial and human resources functions.
- Represent the Pre–service HIV training program with the Ministries of Health, non-governmental organizations, CDC and other stakeholders.
- Prepare, review and share periodical reports and other program deliverables in time.
- Track and present progress, achievements and lessons learned to key stakeholders including donor and partners.
Required Qualifications:
- A Graduate degree in medicine or other relevant field. Degree in Public Health or Education will be an added advantage
- Over 5 years’ experience in successful implementation of HIV training programs, including planning, designing, supervising and evaluating such programs
- Skills in HIV related health services, competency-based clinical training, pre-service training and program planning
- Ability to develop productive working relationships with counterparts in other partners including MOH and Medical Training Colleges
- Team player with demonstrated ability to produce quality results
- Experience in working in a fast-paced multi-agency/organizational environment
- Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS office
Finance Manager
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Finance Manager will be responsible for providing financial and management support to Jhpiego Nairobi Office.
S/he will supervise the
day-to-day financial operations of the Nairobi office, budgeting ensure
internal control systems and review of on-site financial accounting and
bookkeeping system required to assure the integrity and effective
performance of Jhpiego’s financial operations.
Responsibilities:
- Examine financial documents for completeness, accuracy, and validity of financial data before making payments.
- Monitor disbursement of funds from the project bank account(s) to ensure compliance with Jhpiego’s financial policies and procedures.
- Review sample of expense reports and other project expenses on a regular basis to ensure adequate support documentation, allowability, allocability and reasonability.
- Review of QuickBooks monthly financial reports other financial reports and conduct bank reconciliations.
- Assist the Senior Finance Manager to prepare financial reports to donors like USAID, CDC and others as required.
- Assist program managers to develop annual operational budgets and review for accuracy, reasonability, completeness and donor compliance.
- Develop proposal budgets for review by the Senior Finance Manager in accordance with donor requirements.
- Assist the Senior Finance Manager in monitoring program expenses by ensuring timely preparation of expenditure reports, accruals and projections and burn rates on a monthly basis.
- Review existing internal control systems to ensure financial integrity at all times; identify weaknesses and recommend corrective actions as per the GAAPs and Jhpiego’s financial procedures.
- Mentor and train the Finance staff in various finance functions to build their competencies in these areas.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- Minimum CPA (K) or equivalent
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in finance or accounting at supervisory level.
- Minimum of three (3) years practical experience in Quickbooks accounting package
- Additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement
- Knowledge of USAID regulations is an added advantage.
- Previous experience with nonprofit organization will be an added advantage.
- Excellent financial and computer skills – working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software, database applications, word processing and Excel.
- Demonstrated budgeting, budget monitoring and financial reporting skills
Program Officer – Lower Eastern Province
Reporting to the Regional Integration Coordinator, the Program Officer will ensure effective operations of APHIAplus KAMILI project activities at the County level.
S/he will support and
promote maximum integration of health services and to improve access to
health services, nutrition, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission
(PMTCT), Reproductive Health (RH), Family Planning (FP), HIV/AIDS and
Malaria services in collaboration with the Ministries of Health.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the project at county level through co-ordination, supervision, and implementation of project activities
- Ensure nutrition, MNCH/PMTCT/RH/FP/HIV/AIDS/Malaria services are integrated with other health and non-health activities
- Provide mentorship and supportive supervision of health care workers in respective discipline, with a focus on quality assurance / quality improvement
- Strengthen linkages between facilities service delivery and community
- Implement an annual rapid assessment of the county and feed information back to relevant stakeholders
- Coordinate sensitization workshops and advocacy sessions for community leaders and other stakeholders in collaboration with APHIAplus partners
- Participate in preparation of budgets, work plans, and other technical papers
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports
- Assist in program monitoring and evaluation
- Liaise with the Ministries of Health officials through attendance to DHMT meetings and support in the AOP processes
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Social Science, Nutrition, Community Development, Public Health or related field
- Clinical Officer or Registered Nurse
- Possess strong clinical and training skills in nutrition, MNCH/PMTCT/RH/FP/HIV/AIDS
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in the respective discipline
- Experience working with MOH personnel and good knowledge of health systems and programs. Knowledge of systems and experience with donor related projects will be an added advantage
- Familiarity with the National Health Strategic Plan/National Community Strategy
- A demonstrated track record of providing mentorship and supervision for strengthening healthcare services; training in quality improvement approaches
- Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to facilitate program implementation
- Excellent analytical, communication and report writing skills
- Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS office.
