CARE Somalia is an International NGO working in Somalia. CARE and its partners work with vulnerable communities to address the underlying causes of poverty and promote peace and development, as well as mitigating immediate suffering caused by drought, conflict and displacement. We invite applications from experienced and talented individuals to fill the position of Protection Advisor, to be Based in Garowe, Puntland.
Job Purpose: The Protection Advisor will be responsible for leading CARE’s protection work in Somalia and for integrating protection strategies across our program activities. S/he will monitor the human rights situation of the conflict affected population, and support the development of innovative community based protection mechanisms and activities that support the rights of IDPs and other vulnerable groups, with an emphasis on women and children.
Specific responsibilities include: • Research, • Protection strategy development and learning, • Managing staff, monitoring, reporting, networking and advocacy, • Mainstreaming protection issues, IHL and Do-no-Harm throughout CARE programming, training, capacity development.
Requirements: • Masters degree in social sciences or relevant field.• Minimum five (5) years professional experience, at least 3 years field experience with refugees or IDPs, and 2 years protection experience in a complex humanitarian emergency or post-conflict environment. • Somali language skills are highly desirable.
Competencies and skills: Respect, accountability, analytical ability, networking, adaptability, initiating action, building partnerships, communication with impact, facilitating change, coaching, managing performance for success, operational decision making, planning and organizing. Computer literacy in MS-Word, Excel, good interpersonal, communication and writing skills are required.
