The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member
States for a position of Health Officer (HIV/AIDS)) in the Department for Social Affairs.

2. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
To gather, summarize, analyze and disseminate information and decisions on emerging issues and health systems reforms that promote universal access relating to HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Policies and Strategies in Africa;
To advocate for and sensitize Member States and other stakeholders on commitments of Heads of State and Government as to the promotion of universal access, management and control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria services and the implementation of harmonized HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria services policies
To follow-up, monitor and report on important activities on HIV/AIDS,
Tuberculosis and Malaria and ensure that these are mainstreamed within the programmes of the AU Commission;
To monitor the implementation of policy instruments and decisionsrelated to HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria at national, and regional level and compiling progress reports;
To maintain contact with relevant institutions involved in HIV/AIDS,Tuberculosis and Malaria research and advocacy and cooperate with RECs, UN Agencies, AU specialized institutions, Organizations, NGOs and CSOs with a view to raising awareness and maximizing implementation of pertinent decisions and programmes;
To prepare documents and write reports on issues relating to HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria;
To assist in the preparation and organization of meetings including the
AU Conference of the Ministers as well as activities in HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the dissemination of information on related
AUC policies and programmes;
To participate in seminars, workshops, conferences on issues related to
HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and disseminate information on the AUC’s programmes and strategies;
To produce and submit periodic reports on activities including specific missions and progress reports on the implementation of various policy instruments and decisions on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria;
To perform any other duties as may be assigned.
4. Qualifications and Experience Required:
Candidates must have a Bachelor University Degree in Health Sciences, Public Health or relevant Social Sciences with proven knowledge in Epidemiology. Additional qualification in Medical or Social Sciences is an added advantage.
4. Professional experience required:Candidates must have at least 5 years of experience in Public Health policy with focus on control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in either/or both at national and international level. Knowledge and experience of the AU or UN systems is an added advantage.
5. Other Relevant Skills:
Computer literacy;
Working knowledge of policy analysis and programme/project development, implementation and monitoring;
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work autonomously and in a multi-cultural environment;
Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
Good communication and negotiating skills;
Good organizational skills.
6. Language requirement
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages is a requirement; Knowledge of one or more of the other AU working languages would be an added advantage.
7. Age requirement:
Candidates must preferably be between 25and 35 years old.
8. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of
with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter,
the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory
performance .

Remuneration:Indicative basic salary of US$27,892 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($16,819.20 perannum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
