Specific duties:
- Overall management of the implementation of all health activities in Kigoma Region, as per proposals, work plan, indicators, in adherence to donor regulations and agreement, with the aim of serving the beneficiaries effectively.
- Provide strategic leadership for the health program, under the guidance of the Country Director, including ensure that EPR strategy is in place in the event of any epidemic.
- Ensure that the patients are treated according to updates treatment protocol. Consults theUNHCR Public Health Officer in the evaluation and management of complicated cases.
- Confer with the Referral Supervisor and the UNHCR Public Health Officer for those patients to be referred for special medical outreach programs organized within and outside Kigoma Region.
- Ensure that feedback of referred patients, including Persons with Disabilities who are referred for further treatment by the IRC’s Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) sector in camps, is given to the respective camps on monthly basis.
- Supervise the health staff in maintaining appropriate standards of clinical care at NMC. Follow up emergency care/support for repatriating refugees.
- Ensure health education sessions are conducted for the refugees staying at NMC and returnees and lead a participatory process designing IEC materials, ensuring availabilities when required.
- Carry out weekly ward round to the admitted patients at NMC and Maweni Hospital; ensuring that services provided to patients meet standards set.
- Provide overall supervision on water supply/treatment, sanitation and hygiene standards at NMC,including the reception center health facilities.
- Coordinate the screening (and immunization if applicable) of new arrivals and returnees at NMCand advise on complicated cases.
- Regular visit to the camps for sound understanding of health programs there, including CBRhealth related activities, to ensure good coordination of activities and advise on gaps in community services programming as relates to patient care.
- Work with GBV Manager and Kigoma-base GBV focal point, to identify gaps responding to and preventing GBV at NMC Refugee Transit Centre.
- Coordinate awareness raising campaigns on the commemorations of health international days across Kasulu and Kigoma in conjunction with relevant camp –based staff.
- Supervise finance and operations units in Kigoma office.
- Represent IRC in meetings with government and donors.

- Assistant Medical Officer or Higher qualification in a relevant field
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative required
- Computer literacy: knowledge of MS Word; Excel and Outlook required.
- Good English, written and oral skills required
- Experience working in a refugee settings desirable
