The Foundation is an independent non-profit organization, legally incorporated in Switzerland with the purpose of applying the Founder’s unique international experience to address global challenges.
The Foundation’s mission is to promote better global governance and strengthen the capacities of people and countries to achieve a fairer, more secure world. The Foundation is seeking to appoint a Political Officer to support its Peace and Security Unit.
The Foundation works to address the emerging challenges and policy gaps that pose a threat to peace and security and to provide political and strategic advice to leaders (both public and private) aimed at preventing or resolving conflict. .
Responsibilities:
The Political Officer will assist the Senior Political Adviser in carrying out the work of the Peace and Security Unit. This will include the following tasks:
- maintain a watching brief on actual or potential crises or conflicts, and inform the Senior Political Adviser accordingly;
- analyze and assess situations in order to ensure a solid basis for decisions on possible Foundation interventions;
- suggest early warning initiatives and conflict prevention activities where the Foundation might wish to play a role;
- assist in developing relationships with relevant government officials, representatives of international organizations, regional organizations, civil society organizations and others, in support of the goals of the Unit;
S/he will report to the Senior Political Adviser.
In addition, s/he will also contribute to other Foundation projects and activities that have a primary political purpose.
Competencies and Qualifications:
- Minimum ten years of relevant professional experience in mediation and conflict resolution in different parts of the world, including working with governments, international organizations, regional organizations and other relevant actors.
- Strong analytical and writing skills combined with good understanding of geo-political developments and emerging threats to peace and security.
- Sound political judgment, good inter-personal skills and networking ability.
- Initiative, imagination, resourcefulness and energy would be strong assets.
- An educational background in politics and international relations at the level of a post graduate degree (masters).
- Fluency in both English and French (written and spoken) is required.
