The African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) Uganda Chapter is a national child focused organization working to protect and promote the rights of children with particular focus on preventing and redressing violations of children's rights. ANPPCAN Uganda Chapter seeks to recruit competent dynamic and creative individuals to join her team of passionate child advocacy professionals in the following positions:
Position: LEGAL ASSISTANT
Duty Station: APAC
Reports to: PROGRAMME OFFICER
Major Responsibilities
1) Receiving and handling cases of child rights violations through the provision of legal guidance, legal follow up and representation within the justice system.
2) Ensuring appropriate and effective referral of abused children for other support services as may be required.
3) Undertaking community education and awareness activities on child rights issues.
4) Documenting and reporting on all cases received and handled.
5) Engaging with key actors and duty bearers at community and district level in order to ensure an effective and child friendly support system for abused children.
Specific Tasks:
1) To assist the Programme Officer in receiving, assessing and responding to cases of abused children depending on the specific needs of children; including complaints of a legal nature related to the protection of the rights of children within Apac district.
2) To engage with key actors in the justice system to create a victim-friendly environment for abused children seeking justice in Apac district
3) To participate and contribute to ANPPCAN's public education work in Apac district on the legal and other aspects of children's rights
4) Working with other actors to link children to other necessary support services and ensuring that they access such services
5) To assist the Programme Officer in documenting and reporting on the work of ANPPCAN in Apac district in relation to service delivery for abused children.

Job requirement
Qualifications and Experience:
1) Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Law from a recognized institution with a practicing certificate that is admissible in the High Court of Uganda.
2) At least one year's experience in the provision of Legal Aid services either as a volunteer or regular staff in a professional setting.
3) A sound understanding of the legal, policy and institutional framework for the protection of children's rights in Uganda is a must.
4) Psychosocial competencies are advantageous
5) Willing and able to work well at a community level in a rural environment.
6) Ability to function well as part of a muliti-disciplinary team.
7) Dynamic, hard working, result oriented and able to work with minimum supervision.
8) Must be fluent in Langi
Age range of 23 - 30 years. Ladies are particularly encouraged to apply
