Background
Makerere University School of Public Health (MUSPH) in collaboration with Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are undertaking a project to establish strong surveillance systems for Most-at-Risk Populations (MARPS) for HIV/AIDS particularly in fishing communities in Uganda. The project based at Makerere University School of Public Health now invites applications for the following positions:
PROJECT MANAGER (1 position)
Job Summary: The role of the Project Manager is to effect day-to-day management, coordinate and supervise field activities, and to ensure the overall monitoring and evaluation of the MARPs surveillance project operations. The Project Manager will report to the Project Principal Investigator.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Coordinate and lead the preparation of operational plans and budgets
• Coordinate and lead the development of the surveillance protocols and obtain approval from the necessary ethical committees
• Coordinate the implementation of the project and ensure adherence to the surveillance protocols
• Ensure quality data collection and management and coordinate dissemination of findings to national stakeholders Coordinate the formulation of performance indicators for monitoring of the project
• Put in place systems for monitoring and evaluation of the project Provide effective leadership to subordinates, and maintain good teamwork among them
• Provide technical support to field staff in the project implementation Conduct support supervision of field staff during data collection and related activities
• Prepare progress reports and updates to stakeholders on the project implementation
• Coordinate the capacity building efforts in surveillance for the district personnel
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time
Requirement:
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* A Masters degree in a health related field, preferably Public Health
* Training in management and research
* Up to date knowledge of disease surveillance and research, trends in HIV/ AIDS prevention and care in Uganda and internationally, and policies and legislations relating to HIV/AIDS in Uganda
* Practical experience in designing and conducting large scale surveys.
* Skills in management, leadership, team building, communication, computer applications, and report writing.
Minimum Experience and Exposure
* 5 plus years in the implementation of surveillance or research projects
* At least 4 years in middle level or higher managerial positions
* Familiarity with the PEPFAR reporting requirements.
Salary: - USD/month
