Position Responsibilities:
The Senior Technical Advisor, UJANA will provide technical leadership and technical direction in the design and implementation of youth HIV/AIDS and RH programs in the areas of behavior change communications (BCC), educational materials development, training/capacity building, youth participation, gender, and faith-based initiatives to the UJANA project in Tanzania and other FHI youth projects in East and Southern Africa.
The holder of the position will also coordinate Monitoring and Evaluation systems (collecting data for measuring implementation of projects, quality assurance, documentation, and reporting), establishing a country program M&E unit/ virtual center comprised of all FHI Tanzania M&E staff responsible for their respective programs in collaboration with program supervisors.
Minimum Requirements:
MS/MA/MPH in public health or related field, and 9 - 11 years relevant experience in HIV/AIDS or family planning with international development programs. Overseas field experience required. Knowledge and experience in Youth HIV and RH or advanced knowledge in one or more technical areas related to HIV/AIDS, reproduction health, family planning, public health, and/or social science research health programs in developing countries. Informed on current program developments in division/unit area of expertise by review of current literature and alert colleagues and/or management team to any implication of such research for project activities. Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political and ethical issues in assigned areas, e.g. reproductive health, family planning, HIV infection. Ability to lead projects, set realistic priorities, and plan for the successful implementation of activities. Familiar with donor funded programs particularly USAID regulations and communication styles. Computer proficiency in word processing, databases, spreadsheets, including advanced skills in at least two of the following programs: SPSS, Excel, Epi Info, Stata, and Ms Access. Has written and published materials related to youth HIV/AIDS and RH programming, e.g., journal articles, job aids, training curricula, and other tools. Resident experience in a developing country; and professional experience working in East and Southern Africa with government ministries and nongovernmental organizations focused on HIV/AIDS and RH programming. Ability to travel nationally, regionally, and internationally up to 45 percent time.
