ILRI seeks applications for the position of Scientific Officer as part of its project ‘Small ruminant value chains as platforms for reducing poverty and increasing food security in dryland areas of India and Mozambique’.
The Position: The Scientific Officer is expected to support the technical, social and institutional development of goat value chains in Jharkhand and Rajasthan facilitating improvement in rural livelihoods of underprivileged communities. S/he will work closely with our partner (BAIF), assist data collection and support ILRI scientists in the analysis and preparation of reports, articles, and presentations.
Main Duties
- Assist scientists and post-doctoral staff in research activities. This will include participation in the design of research activities; literature search and review; information and data collection, entry and analysis; summarizing and writing of reports.
- Collating, maintaining and analysis of datasets and information generated by various research activities to facilitate synthesis activities
- Facilitate partnerships and linkages with local stakeholders through networking workshops, meetings and one to one interactions.
- Contribute to organization of workshops, meetings and conferences.
- Contribute towards communicating research findings to different types of audience, including contributing to journal articles and other publications
- Document relevant experiences and develop case studies
- Manage administrative tasks in support of the project activities Performing other duties/tasks as required and/or assigned
Requirements
- Masters degree in Agricultural Extension; Rural Development & Communication and Innovation; Development Studies; Agricultural Economics or other relevant discipline..
- Sound understanding of livestock systems and value chains in India and their role in rural livelihoods, particularly in underprivileged communities and groups.
- At least 2 years’ experience in livestock research /development /support services.
- Demonstrated experience in field studies /research.
- Excellent analytical skills for qualitative and quantitative research, including experience with survey design and implementation
- Excellent communication skills, including excellence in oral and written English and Hindi.
- Experience of participatory research methods
- Ability to facilitate stakeholder workshops and training programs
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work flexibly in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams
- A sense of creativity and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Experience of monitoring and evaluation tools would be an advantage.
Location: The post will be based in Jharkhand, India and will require frequent travel to project sites in the State and occasional travel to the project sites in Rajasthan and to the ILRI office in New Delhi.
Terms of appointment: The position is initially for two years and may be renewed based on the performance of the candidate and funding availability. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
