AKU has been offering educational programmes in East Africa since 2001 and is currently planning a major expansion of its existing work in East Africa, in the fields of medical, nursing and teacher education. AKU is fully registered in Tanzania by the Tanzania Commission for Universities as Aga Khan University -Tanzania Institute of Higher Education (AKU-TIHE).

AKU’s Advanced Nursing Studies programme was developed in consultation with the nursing councils and the Ministries of Health and Education of the governments of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda), to improve the managerial and clinical practices of nurses currently working throughout the region. The programme provides career advancement opportunities for nurses generally and for women in particular. It is a collaborative endeavor, underpinned by a range of formal and informal partnerships with government and private hospitals, nursing leaders and local faculty in each country, as well as linkages with prestigious international organizations such as the Royal College of Nursing of the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Academic Head, the incumbents will primarily be involved in teaching in our undergraduate and diploma programmes. Other duties will include but not limited to: Implementing the curriculum Setting and marking of examinations Ensuring the quality of clinical learning opportunities Conducting research Assisting in continuous review of the curriculum Serving in academic committees within the University Initiating and maintaining collaborations with clinical facilities Actively contributing to the nursing profession nationally and regionally

Requirements

The candidate(s) should: Be registerable with the Nursing Council of Tanzania Have a Masters degree in nursing or related field Have at least five years teaching experience at an institution of higher learning Demonstrate excellence in teaching and have a solid track record or potential for scholarly productivity Be able to utilise modern teaching/learning methodologies Demonstrate commitment to research and publication.
