The Trust, which runs education and training programmes in Africa and the UK, wishes to recruit a number of short and medium term consultants to support a number of activities in the EU funded ICDSEA (Integrated Capacity Development for Somali Education Administrations) programme in Somalia.
The curriculum specialist will support the Ministries of Education to:
1. Review existing curriculum in formal and non formal education
2. Establish output oriented curriculum with defined key stages
3. Develop a set of minimum standards for learning institutions
4. Assist the MoEs to improve the capacity of personnel within the Somaliland / Puntland Ministries of Education to understand the curriculum process and implementation
The supervision specialist will support the Ministries of Education to:
1. Assess the current status of supervision systems at Ministry and other levels
2. Develop a set of minimum standards for supervision at all levels of education
3. Develop systems and schedules for supervision and train personnel in their use
The assessment specialist will support the Ministries of Education to:
1. Improve existing exam systems
2. Develop a data bank that improves record keeping at all levels (Grade 8, Form 4 etc.)
3. Train personnel within exam boards to ensure sustainable systems of assessment and improve quality of local examination systems
4. Improve exam setting techniques that reflect the competency based curriculum and ensure exams are set against clear performance criteria
5. Train exam board in more coherent exam results analysis and presentation
Candidate Specification for Consultants:
Applicants should have a masters’ degree in their area of specialisation (or similar) as well as 10 years experience in delivering education in developing contexts (experience of fragile states desired). Excellent English written and oral communication skills and computer literacy are essential. The consultancies will take place in Somaliland and Puntland for periods of between one and three months.
