Director , Girls Foundation of Tanzania (TGFT)
The Girls Foundation of Tanzania (TGFT) is a non-profit organization providing intellectual and financial support for educational opportunities for adolescent girls in Tanzania.The Director of TGFT will oversee and run all operations on the ground in Tanzania in conjunction and communication with the chair of the board based in the US.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory:
- Supervise deputy director, work together closely on a daily basis, coordinate weekly schedule of priorities to be accomplished
- Report to chair of the board in the U.S.with weekly Skype calls and daily emails
- Attend twice yearly board meetings of TGFT in Arusha to provide updates and input
- Submit bi-annual reports to the board of directors with program evaluations and suggestionsfor program development
- Serve as an advocate and mentor for the girls
- Follow up with medical care for each girl, maintain thorough medical records
Financial:
- Maintain financial records, update expenses in Quicken, submit cash requests and actual expenses, prepare budgets, coordinate tax reports and audits
- Assist with grant writing and fundraising activities
Program Development:
- Collaborate with deputy director to select girls for sponsorship by identifying top students in financial need, conduct interviews and home visits
- Coordinate internship/volunteer program for girls that aligns with their professional goals. Liaise with businesses and facilities where the girls are interested in gaining experience and establish relationships
- Oversee and develop volunteer program
- Design schedule/curriculum for twice yearly 3 week periods where all girls will participate in tutoring, educational and motivational trips, HIV/family planning lessons, ESL activities, speeches, debates, and volunteering
- Network with NGOs, schools, companies, organizations to explore program opportunities and establish collaborative relationships
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a human services field required, advanced degree preferred
- Prior experience working in developing countries is strongly desired
- Prior experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in the field of education
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- Languages: Fluency in English required, Kiswahili desired
- Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated financial analysis skills, including the ability to analyze and create budgets, maintain financial records, familiarity with Quicken or QuickBooks a plus
- Grant writing and fundraising experience preferable but not required
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Strong commitment to TGFT's vision of ensuring educational access for girls in need
Compensation and Benefits: Stipend is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Start date: December 1, 2013 negotiable
