Chemonics seeks long-term technical specialists for the anticipated three-year, USAID-funded Power Africa Transactions and Reforms Program. The program aims to support capacity building and transactions under the U.S. President's Power Africa Initiative, focusing initially on the following countries: Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. Transaction Advisor
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate with other Power Africa implementers and stakeholders, including other U.S. government agencies and donors
- Identify and develop a pipeline of priority projects under the Power Africa initiative
- Collect information and develop analysis on power projects for investors, lenders, and the Power Africa Working Group
- Provide analysis on potential transactions and promising private sector-driven, high-impact energy projects
- Assist in implementation of Independenet Power Producer (IPP) framework
- Support technical capacity building and provide direct assistance on transaction issues to host-government and key ministries
- Monitor and report on project development, assistance implementation, and reforms; track progress against Power Africa targets and objectives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in energy-related engineering, policy, business, finance, economics, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum five years of experience in power sector required; eight years of experience preferred
- Experience with international donors, preferably USAID
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- English and Swahili fluency required
Small-Scale Renewable Project Development Advisor
Responsibilities include:
- Link project developers and investors with national and regional financing networks
- Identify small-scale, grid-connected projects and distributed generation projects and businesses
- Provide coaching and mentoring to small-scale energy projects, helping to develop business plans, investment pitches, and growth strategies; facilitate linkages with investors and financiers
- Support innovative off-grid and mini-grid solutions to increase electricity access and rural electrification
- Coordinate project support and development from early stage through financial closure in collaboration with other Power Africa partners and donors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in energy-related engineering, policy, business, finance, economics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience working on small-scale renewable energy projects
- Experience working in the sub-Saharan energy sector and understanding of key issues and stakeholders involved in small-scale renewable project development
- Experience with international donors, preferably USAID
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- English fluency required; Swahili fluency highly desirable
Senior Transaction Advisor
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and oversee transaction advisors from other Power Africa countries
- Monitor progress of transaction advisors and identify areas where additional support or U.S. government engagement is necessary
- Interact regularly with USAID and government officials to ensure that project initiatives are well-integrated and meet Power Africa targets and goals
- Serve as a technical resource and senior advisor to transaction advisors
- Coordinate with other Power Africa implementers and stakeholders, including other U.S. government agencies and donors
- Gather information and develop analysis on power projects for investors, lenders, and the Power Africa Working Group
- Monitor and report on project development, assistance implementation, and reforms; track progress against Power Africa targets and objectives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in energy-related engineering, policy, business, finance, economics, or a related field required; advanced degree required
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the power sector
- Extensive experience in power sector reform issues highly desirable
- Experience with international donors, preferably USAID
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- English fluency required; Swahili fluency highly desirable
