About a peace corps medical officer position: the successful candidate is responsible for ensuring effective and efficient operations of the peace corps medical unit equivalent to united states standards. About the united states Peace Corps: Peace Corps volunteers work throughout Tanzania in the areas of health promotion, environmental resources management and math and science education. Volunteers focus on developing capacity in the communities where they live and work so that the people in the communities can improve their lives
Qualification:
Position elements
Clinical care- provide clinical care, including assessment and management of health problems for common illness and injuries for peace crops volunteers, arrange prompt medical and/or diagnostic consultations as needed ( including medical evacuation when necessary)
Maintain current, complete and accurate records on all volunteer consultations and treatment
Serve as emergency duty phone officer on biweekly basis.
Counseling- provides emotional support and short-term counseling services to volunteers as needed
Establish a mental health referral network and assess volunteers for signs and symptoms of emotional disorders.
Program management/administration-procure and maintain supplies of medications, health and medical equipment to meet anticipated routine and emergency medical needs
Maintain medical inventory and regularly scheduled office hours.
Prevention and health education-design and provide health education to volunteers through group training, newsletters, health handbooks, and individual health education, provide preventive health services including immunizations and periodic health evaluations.
Travel-travel throughout Tanzania as needed, occasional international travel.
Requirements
• graduate of accredited school, MDs must be graduates of school listed at the following link: http://www.faimer,or/resources/imed.html
• currently licensed to practice as a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant
• Ability to pass US Embassy background security check.
• Minimum 3 years experience in physical assessment, diagnostic and medical management.
• Fluent verbal/written English skills; working knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, access, outlook.
