Position: Internal Audit/Institutional Advancement Analyst (IAA)
Location: Los Angeles, CA; with frequent travel to RI offices globally
Reports to: CEO

Position Summary:
The IA Analyst will assist RI’s emerging Internal Audit department with its mission to ensure that the organization meets and exceeds standards of excellence at all levels. The IA Analyst accomplishes this providing all departments and offices with best practices, operational standards, and working tools. The Analyst works directly with the CEO’s office to identify gaps and empower action.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
In the field:
• Provide a presentation to the field team on the mission and goals of RI along with an orientation to RI culture, expectations, and general SOPs. • Meet locally with Country Directors and other staff to collect feedback on how well the functions and culture of the office are aligned with the mission of RI. Learn from staff about strengths and weaknesses of the local office work culture and organizational structure. • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls. • Determine managers’ and other senior staff’s understanding of RI operational and HR procedures, guidelines, and regulations through individual and group discussions. • Plan, perform and report back on internal management audits to ensure that control procedures are appropriate and are being properly implemented, managed and in place within RI’s offices. • Review and discuss internal audit findings with the responsible RI staff as appropriate. • Scout talent locally and in-house to build the capacity of the Internal Audit department. • Present findings in detailed reports to Country Directors for discussion and review, and refer to responsible managers for the development of action plans. • Develop continuous updates of comprehensive sets of best practices across all sectors of the organization relating (but not limited to) Finance, Operations, Programs, HR, Security, Logistics, etc.
At HQ (Los Angeles):
• Ascertain and compile the needs of RI’s departments to determine audit standards. • Identify best practices in field offices for consideration and adoption. • Design, plan and undertake specific internal audit procedures. • For each assignment, prepare a written report to present findings and conclusions to management. This report will include recommendations to management and suggestions for improving the overall internal control environment. • Present findings to management. • Assist with cultivation/refining systems as needed for field and HQ offices. • Follow-up on the implementation of audit and management action plans. • Coordinate with HQ-based staff on evolving the internal audit process. • Scout talent to build the Internal Audit department.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
This position demands an individual who is detail-oriented, and has inter-cultural experience with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast-paced environment. • Master’s degree in a relevant field or Bachelor’s degree with commensurate work experience; • International experience in developing counties preferred; • Previous NGO/non-profit experience preferred • Strong oral and written communication skills • Excellent analytical and organizational skills • Attention to detail • Experience with database software preferred • Strong ability to work both independently as well as in a team • (Optional) Ability to speak/write in French fluently • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently; • Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness; • Excellent analytical and organizational skills. • Ability to think critically and creatively; • Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and is a team player; • Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team; • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment; • Must be flexible, willing to perform other duties and work irregular hours; • Ability to travel; • Must be flexible, willing to perform other duties and work irregular hours; • Strong writing skills; • Must be flexible, willing to perform other duties and work irregular hours; • Ability to use statistics and database programs.
