The School of the Built Environment is one of the leading built environment centres in the UK in both teaching and research, with a commitment to delivering high quality programmes for our students. Our research institutes operate at the forefront of design and innovation in the built environment, through the delivery of high value high impact research. We have ambitious expansion plans through recruitment in a number of areas.
The Institute
The Institute for Infrastructure and Environment (IIE) aims to be world leading in civil engineering research. It will deliver excellence in specialist areas of high value high impact research and postgraduate training across a wide range of fields within the professional discipline. Staff are currently working in water management, railway engineering, cementitious materials, critical infrastructure, geomechanics and structural analysis and are leading the way in providing research solutions to major research challenges in these fields.
The Role
The School is seeking to appoint a Chair/Reader to provide leadership, vision and a clear strategy for the development in Highway Materials. The Chair/Reader will act as the key internal and external representative for the research in this field, such that it will make a strong contribution to the wider research growth and profile of the School and the University, and it is expected that he/she will actively drive the external profile and engagement of the research, both nationally and internationally.
Based on the Edinburgh campus, you will be a member of a strong academic research and teaching staff. You will liaise closely with colleagues on our Dubai campus who will also be delivering courses to our students.
Successful candidates will have the ability to conduct cutting edge research in their area of expertise and a proven track record of research leadership.
