The Middle East & North Africa Human Development department (MNSHD) is responsible for assisting the Bank's clients in the Middle East and North Africa (MNA) Region to achieve poverty reduction and sustainable growth through human development. MNSHD is composed of three closely inter-related sector teams - Education, Health and Social Protection - which work together towards the achievement of Human Development (HD) goals and strategies for the MNA region. MNSHD aims to serve its partner countries through empowered country teams that work around a Country Assistance Strategy developed in close participation with the client stakeholders. To achieve this, MNSHD attaches particular importance to a work environment defined by teamwork, transparency, trust, and client service.
The Social Protection (SP) sector is responsible for delivering services to clients in policy areas including social safety nets/social assistance systems, labor market assessment and reform, employment creation, youth employment, migration, social insurance (e.g. pensions and unemployment insurance) and cross-sectoral issues such as education-to-work transition, social services, social accountability, etc. Working towards these goals with a solid appreciation for these challenges, MNSSP develops strategic policy dialog, effective operational programs and projects, and technically strong analysis with our client countries. The SP team is committed to deliver high quality technical products to the Bank’s client countries in a manner that builds capacity through collaborative interactions with country counterparts.
MNSHD is seeking to recruit a Senior Social Protection Specialist/Economist to play an active role in the activities described above. The candidate is expected to play a significant role in building on the longstanding engagements with the country clients and in business development. There are three primary areas of contribution: (i) operational leadership and lending operations; (ii) leadership on Technical Assistance and ESW; (iii) leadership of policy dialogue on SP, (iv) mentoring of staff and (v) knowledge creation and management.
The job location is at this point flexible and can be in HQ or one of the Country Offices. The selected applicant’s profile and preferences will be an essential input in making the decision.
