This post provides outstanding opportunities for postdoctoral research in parallel with clinical training in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General (Internal) Medicine. The University's Endocrinology research groups are based in the UoE/BHF Centre for Cardiovascular Science and the MRC Centre for Reproductive Health, both large internationally renowned groups of clinical and biomedical researchers with expertise in many aspects of steroid hormone action in reproduction, obesity, type 2 diabetes, neuroendocrinology and cardiovascular disease. Both Centres provide excellent facilities for laboratory research in the Queen's Medical Research Institute at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh campus, and for clinical research in the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility. Clinical training will be provided in the Edinburgh Centre for Endocrinology, which encompasses tertiary referral services at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Western General Hospital.
Candidates must have completed an initial research training (to PhD or MD level), be committed to a career in academic medicine, and already hold MRCP(UK) and a National Training Number in Diabetes & Endocrinology in the UK. The post has the required educational and Postgraduate Dean's approval and the successful applicant will be granted Honorary Specialty/Specialist Registrar status by Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust.
