Sr / Principal IO (Agribusiness & Infrastructure)

Job #: 120022
Title: Sr / Principal IO (Agribusiness & Infrastructure)
Job Stream: Infrastructure
Location: To Be Determined
Closing Date: 02/12/2012

Background / General description:
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, is one of the leading investors and lenders in emerging markets. The mission of IFC is to promote sustainable private sector investment in developing countries, helping to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. IFC finances private sector investments in the developing world, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses. The intersection of agricultural and infrastructure development is of increasing importance in Sub-Saharan Africa, whether in irrigation, transport infrastructure, storage or other related areas. This is a result of the continued strong priority attached to Africa by the development community, the continent-wide deficit in infrastructure, and increasing price pressure in food and other agricultural products. Many governments, as well as private investors, are looking at how to integrate both agricultural and infrastructure concerns into investments, in some cases taking the form of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). IFC is seeking to add value to clients and member governments in this increasingly important area, and is recruiting a specialist to develop and lead its activity in this intersection between agribusiness and infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to display and develop cross-sectoral skills in large, highly visible situations with significant developmental impact. The position will be based in either Dakar, Nairobi or Washington DC.

Duties and Accountabilities:
The responsibilities of the Senior/Principal Investment Officer (Agribusiness and Infrastructure Specialist) include but are not limited to: -Leading and working closely with senior IFC relationship managers and senior contacts at client companies in agribusiness and infrastructure to identify potential opportunities for infrastructure and agribusiness PPPs. -Leading and working closely with senior colleagues at the World Bank, and senior officials of member governments to similarly identify such potential opportunities for infrastructure and agribusiness PPPs in SSA. -Working with public and private partners to develop infrastructure and agribusiness PPP opportunities into bankable transactions. -Leading investment teams and working with other IFC colleagues to process IFC investments in PPPs. -Integrating commercial, public policy, and environmental and social considerations into prospective investments.
Selection Criteria:
-Advanced university degree. -At least 8 to 12 years of investment and industry experience, and a proven track record in originating, structuring and closing complex transactions. -Deep knowledge of basic service delivery in infrastructure, including main private providers of such services, particularly in Sub Saharan Africa. -Deep knowledge of agribusiness. -Clear understanding of both motivations and requirements of commercial investors, and of public policy considerations involved in the private delivery of infrastructure services. -Ability to lead large teams and complex initiatives. -Robust organizational skills, results oriented and strong client focus. -Commitment to the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission, strategy and values and motivation to support development in Sub-Saharan Africa. -Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds. -Ability to interact directly and independently with senior government officials. -Comfortable working in an environment with a high degree of complexity. -Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; French language skills an advantage.
