The Eastern African
Sub Regional support Initiative for the Advancement of Women (EASSI), is a sub-regional civil society organisation
made up of committed individuals, NGOs, coalitions and networks driven to
transform gender relations globally and especially in the Eastern African
sub-region. EASSI was formed in 1996 as a mechanism to follow up implementation
of the Beijing Platform for Action in the sub-region. EASSI works in 8
countries, that is, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia,
Tanzania and Uganda.
With support
from the Dutch Government, through the FLOW (Funding Leadership and
Opportunities for Women),EASSI in
partnership with DSW is implementing a four year Women and Girls Empowerment
project (WOGE) in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia.
The overall objective of the
project is to contribute to poverty reduction by strengthening Women’s and
Girls’ voices for economic self-reliance.
EASSI intends to recruit a dynamic and self-driven person to
fill the post of Project
Assistant.

General Description:
In collaboration with the Project
Coordinator, the Project Assistant will ensure the effective planning, implementation,
and monitoring of the ‘Women and Girls Empowerment Project (WOGE) in Kabale
district. The Project Assistant will work closely with the local government and
women leadership in Kabale district.
In particular the Project Assistant is responsible
for the following tasks:
Section A: Coordinate WOGE
activities in Kabale district (Uganda)
Ø Mobilizing women and
girls to participate in project activities
Ø Identify
training needs of women and girls
Ø Conduct tailor made
trainings for women and girls
Ø In collaboration with
the Project Coordinator organise exchange visits, trade fairs, and exhibitions for women and girls
Ø Facilitate women and
groups to register their groups/businesses
Ø Document success stories
Ø Monitor the progress of
the project
Ø Network and represent
EASSI at various meetings and fora
Ø Prepare monthly
progress and accountability reports together with supporting documents
Ø Participate in
proposal writing
Section
B: Manage Katuna Information and Resource Centre
Ø Manage the Information
and Resource centre at Katuna border point
Ø Collate trade
information on cross border trade and disseminate it to the women traders in
timely manner
Ø Attend to the trading
needs of the women cross border traders & refer them to the relevant border
and other government authorities for remedies
Ø Maintain and update
the resource centre register
Ø Produce regular
statistical reports on the functioning and use of the resource centre
Ø Provide timely
information to EASSI
Ø Responsible for the
security of all EASSI property in the resource centre
Ø Collect & receive
and cataloguing of materials for the resource centre
Ø Recruit members for
the Katuna and National Women Cross Border Trader’s Association
Ø Support the activities
of Katuna Women’s Cross border traders’ Association
Ø Manage the business
unit at the resource centre
Ø Lobby for EASSI to
become an agent for border transit (avail forms)
Ø Carry out any
other duties as may be requested by
your immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
and Experience
-
BA
degree in social sciences, Gender studies or relevant development studies.
-
A
minimum of 2years’ experience in working with non-profit organizationsin rural
communities
-
Knowledge
of women’s rights and gender equality issues at national, regional and international
level is an added advantage.
-
Experience
of working with women and youths groups in communities
-
Flexibility,
problem solving with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work under
pressure.
-
Excellent
communication skills in spoken and written English andknowledge of Swahili is
an added advantage
-
Excellent
use of IT technology (excel, Microsoft, power point, internetetc.)
