Plan in Tanzania’s Country Strategic Plan 2011-2015 aims that children and youth are empowered, respected and responsible, with a priority on the most vulnerable and marginalized. This goal will be achieved through the implementation of 5 Country Programs: (1) Child Protection, (2) Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) (3) Maternal and Child Health, including WASH (4) Children and Youth Participation and (5) Household Economic Security
The Business Development Manager manages the Business Development Unit (BDU). The BDU is responsible for identifying funding opportunities in line with Plan Tanzania’s program priorities, writing successful grants in coordination with program colleagues and strengthening systems and processes for effective grant management.
The Business Development Manager is needed to support the achievement of country fundraising targets and learning regarding the funding portfolio, while assisting the Country Office in Tanzania to develop a strong professional image among Plan donors so that additional grant funding is acquired to grow and support Plan’s program in Tanzania. This will be achieved through:
1.Actively seeking and maximizing opportunities for additional funding from a variety of sources; 2.Strengthening the capacity of the in-country BDU and other relevant departments in acquire and implement increased sustainable grant funding.
Dimensions of Role: The post holder will report to the Country Director of Plan International Tanzania and is a member of Country Management Team. S/he directly supervises 3 Grants Specialists and a Grants Accountant (indirectly). The post holder manages a departmental budget at the Country Office and has delegated financial authority for expenditures of up to $100,000.
In line with the Country Strategic Plan and the income target for Tanzania, the incumbent will be responsible for develop a resource mobilization strategy, expand and diversify the institutional donor portfolio as well as the corporate donor base. The post holder will work proactively with National Organization (NOs) to identify and win appropriate grant opportunities and build the capacity and coordinate the development, writing of successful grant proposals across relevant departments.

Physical Environment and Demands: Based in Tanzania’s Country Office (Dar Es Salaam) with field travels whenever necessary, extensive visit to donor representatives and limited international travel to meet with donors/NOs. Type of Role: 5 year fixed term contract Location: Dar Es Salaam with local and international travel (40%) Reports to: Country DirectorSalary: US$45,000 to $55,000.
