The British Council in Dar es Salaam is recruiting English Language Trainers to join us in April 2013 for a large scale project across Tanzania.
We have two vacancies available for enthusiastic, self-motivated and experienced trainers who are ready to live and work in rural Tanzania. The postings will be in remote areas with very basic living conditions, including limited electricity and public transport. The posts would suit self-sufficient trainers who are ready to engage fully in rural Tanzanian life and culture with few western comforts.
The successful candidate would be based at a Teacher Training College (TTC), living either on campus or nearby and be responsible for delivering training on English language and teaching methodology to the tutors based at the college. There will be one British Council teacher trainer based at each TTC and visits to Dar es Salaam for training and meetings will take place twice per year.
We are leading nationwide project funded by DFID to improve the English language proficiency and teaching knowledge and skills across Tanzania. English Language Trainers will plan and deliver high quality teaching and teacher training to pre-service teacher trainers and student teachers. This post is full-time position based in one of 34 training colleges in mainland Tanzania. You will need to be flexible in your working pattern and build strong relationships with the trainers and administrators in your college.
You must have a CELTA or Trinity Cert. TESOL and a degree in any subject, plus at least two years teaching experience after training, in a wide range of situations, including public and private sectors. Experience of extra-mural work with national teachers, and experience of teaching school-age children and young adults is desirable but not essential.
The project is for two years but we can negotiate shorter contracts with trainers who may not want to commit to two years from the outset. Benefits and allowances may be reduced for trainers who are contracted for less than two years.
Please note: these appointments are contingent upon our contractual agreement with the DfID.
Closing date: ongoing – we will process applications as soon as they are received
