Organizational Setting |
The Department of Safeguards is the organizational hub for the implementation of IAEA safeguards. The IAEA implements nuclear verification activities for more than 160 States in accordance with their safeguards agreements. The safeguards activities are undertaken within a dynamic and technically challenging environment including advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities and complemented by the political diversity of the countries. The Department of Safeguards consists of six Divisions: three Operations Divisions: A, B and C, for the implementation of verification activities around the world; and three Technical Divisions, (i) Division of Concepts and Planning, (ii) Division of Information Management, and (iii) Division of Technical and Scientific Services, as well as two Offices: the Office of Safeguards Analytical Services and the Office of Information and Communication Services. The Office of Analytical Services (SGAS) is responsible for the analysis of nuclear material and environmental swipe samples, as well as the coordination of logistics and the Network of Analytical Laboratories (NWAL). Located about 45 km south of Vienna in Seibersdorf, the office is organized into three sections: The Nuclear Material Laboratory including the On-Site Laboratory (OSL) in Japan, the Environmental Sample Laboratory and the Coordination and Support Section. Within the Coordination and Support Section, the Analytical Services Team is responsible for sample logistics (coordinating collection and distribution of samples from facilities to the NWAL), management of NWAL including qualification, performance monitoring, assignment of laboratories, budgetary requirements and evaluation of analytical results. |
Main purpose |
Reporting to a team leader, the Project Engineer (NWAL) is responsible for the day-to-day management of the NWAL, distribution of samples, timely collection of reports, and the monitoring of analysis quality of the NWAL. |
Role |
The Project Engineer (NWAL) is a focal point of all day-to-day operations regarding the NWAL, and an adviser to the Team, Section and Division on issues associated with NWAL. |
Partnerships |
As the primary point of contact for NWAL issues (logistics, distribution of samples, communication with NWAL members, collection of results and monitoring performance as well as analytical quality), the Project Engineer (NWAL) establishes and maintains positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. As well as providing internal advice, the incumbent interacts with the customers within the Division and the Department of Safeguards, and with the members of the NWAL (some of which through regularly organized meetings). |

Remuneration |
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $56 018 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $34 283*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance.
