POSITION SUMMARY
The Nutritionist will, in coordination with the Medical Director, oversee the nutritional activities in International Medical Corps programs in South Sudan. Main responsibilities include:
• Ensure that the implementation of the nutrition programs conform to internationally accepted standards and country guidelines • Provide technical support and supervision on nutrition activities to those staff implementing nutrition programs in South Sudan • Provide guidance to staff implementing the International Medical Corps South Sudan program on the integration of a nutrition component into other sectors as appropriate • Provide technical leadership and support for conducting nutrition and coverage surveys, prepare reports and generate discussion within the nutrition coordination forums for any issues which needs to be addressed jointly. • In collaboration with partners (MoH, WFP and UNICEF) support field sites with the organization of the logistics of food commodities. • Assist in compiling the nutrition activities inputs to donor project reports and proposals • Assess the training needs of nutrition staff and develop a training program to meet these needs. • Conduct nutrition training for project nutrition staff and MOH counterparts implementing nutrition programs in South Sudan , focusing on all aspects of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) , infant and Young child feeding and Behavior Change Communication . • Ensure the establishment and strengthening of nutrition monitoring activities and train health staff (IMC, MOH, and local NGO) in case detection and referral mechanisms. • Conduct and train health staff on surveys including nutrition and coverage surveys, causal analysis, and other assessments of nutritional status of target groups. Provide Coordination and Liaise, with the Ministry of Health and other agencies (UNICEF, WHO, and WFP) to ensure appropriate provision of service and use of resources • Report properly and in a appropriate time all relevant nutritional information required for the comprehensive development of the nutrition programs • Represent International Medical Corps in Nutrition Cluster and act as the focal point for Jonglei State and attend other relevant Nutrition related meetings
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 5 years in developing country or emergency response); or a master’s degree and 5+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 3 years in developing country or emergency response) • Work experience in CMAM , IYCF and BCC required • Program development and management experience in a Humanitarian and/or emergency situation required • Ability to train national staff on state of the art approaches to nutrition response in emergencies • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, develop timetables for agreed activities and oversee staff activities • Strong organizational and supervisory skills; • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments, • Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently • Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations. • Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively • Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources. • Ability and willingness to travel to rural locations and live in sometimes basic conditions. • Previous experience working for an international NGO in developing countries required • Previous experience in Sub Saharan Africa desired
