Background
KANCO is a national membership network of organization with over 1000 Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs), Community Based Organization (CBOs), Faith Based Organization (FBOs), Private Sector, Research and Learning Institutions responding to HIV & AIDS and TB in Kenya.
KANCO collaborates with ACTION (The Advocacy to Control Tuberculosis Internationally) project an international partnership of advocates working to mobilize resources to treat and prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB), a global disease that kills one person every 20 seconds. ACTION’s underlying premise is that more rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic by building increased support for resources for effective TB control among key policymakers and other opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries (HBCs) and donor countries.
Overall Role
The advisor will work with the project manager to identify advocacy opportunities for resource mobilization for TB control in Kenya. He/she will also work to mobilize the Government and Members of Parliament in Kenya and other donor countries to raise the profile of TB and consequently increase TB resources. He/She is expected to work with the policy and advocacy department for implementation of the relevant activities that are geared towards increased health financing in Kenya. The position is also responsible for engaging in the GF processes to ensure flow of funds and timely disbursement of the same.
Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities for resource mobilization for TB control
- Take lead in mobilizing Members of Parliament for political advocacy for TB
- Give technical assistance to TB Advocacy activities
- Promote stakeholders participation in TB advocacy
- Liaison with multi-lateral and bilateral donors for TB resources
- Liaison with Government departments working with TB
- Support the processes of adoption and domestication of TB declarations,
- Support formulation of TB policies
- Participate in TB decision making bodies-TBICC, TBHIV and other working groups that contribute to the advancement of TB control efforts
- Promote legal and human rights issue pertaining HIV/AIDS and TB among stakeholders
- Support capacity building efforts for CSOs on TB and TBHIV
- Participate in Global TB advocacy campaigns
- Advice on GFATM, TB advocacy TB related issues
- Any other duties assigned by your supervisor
Person Specification
Essential
The applicants for the above assignment MUST possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of Master’s degree in public health, public policy, communication or any relevant field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in communication and high profile advocacy in a health related project.
- In-depth understanding of local and Global TB control, health financing mechanisms (GFATM, PEPFAR etc).
- Experience in working with development partners.
- Leadership skills.
- Should be dynamic with excellent communication skills.
