National Institute for Medical Research is a Parastatal Organization under the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare established by the Act of Parliament No. 23 of 1979 to carry out, control, coordinate, register, monitor, evaluate and promote health research in Tanzania.
The Institute is looking for qualified and experienced Tanzanians to fill the following vacant posts to be based at NIMR HQ in Dar es Salaam, NIMR Tukuyu in Mbeya, Tabora and Mwanza.
1. DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH CO-ORDINATION AND PROMOTION- 1 POST
Responsible to: Director General Duty Station: NIMR Headquarters
Qualification and Experience:
• A PhD in any of the Main Scientific/Medical disciplines
• Excellent Academic Qualifications and Administrative Experience/Capability
• Excellent record and extensive experience in research at a Senior level
• Publications: At least eighteen publications in peer reviewed journal (First Author in at least five of them).
Skills and Abilities:
• To interpret and promote NIMR's key research purposes;
• To influence, persuade and build research coalitions and networks.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Coordinate all research and publication activities at NIMR
• Coordinate development and periodical review of NIMR research policy including publications and submission to Scientific Board and Council for approval, Government for adoption and funding and ensure effective use of research funds so acquired and publication of the findings.
• Assist Centres in soliciting for research opportunities/resources from the Government, Private sector and Development Partners to facilitate the execution of major scientific research projects;
• Coordinate in collaboration with Director of Finance preparation of research budget of NIMR for all Centers.;
• Facilitate dissemination of major research findings that may inform policy developments and practice.
• Provide leadership to senior management team responsible for research functions of NIMR and ensure that each performs to expected level of excellence.
• Provide leadership in monitoring, regulating and registration of medical research carried out in Tanzania.
• Carry out all other functions as may from time to time be assigned to him/her by the Director General.
2. CENTRE DIRECTOR - 1 POST
Responsible to : Director General
Duty Station: Tukuyu Medical Research Centre
Qualification and Experience
• A PhD in heath related subjects
• Excellent record and extensive experience in research at Senior level

• Responsible for coordination of efficient and effective implementation of decisions and directives of the centre.
• Prepare and submit to NIMR HQ research and financial reports in relations to the center functions.
• Carry out all other functions as may from time to time be assigned to him/her by the Director
General.
3. SENIOR HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER: 3 POSTS DUTY STATION: Headquarters 1; Tabora Centre; - 1; Mwanza centre - 1
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Holder of Masters Degree (Public Administration or Human Resource Management, or Business
Administration).
• Must have at least five years post qualification experience in a senior position at a reputable public Institution.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist Human Resources Manager in all Human resources management,
Planning and development of the Institute.
• May be appointed to head Human Resources Department at the centre and work as a liason Officer between headquarters and Centre by making sure that all human resources policies and procedures are adhered to in the day to day administration of the Centre.
• Follow-up on Annual Performance Appraisals, staff welfare and employees relations
• Assist in assessing training needs together with Directorate/Departmental heads.
• To ensure that the Directorate/Departmental heads are aware of and follow Tanzania Labour Laws and policies and manages Labour disputes.
• To deal wit a personnel, Legal and Administrative matters of the centre including recruitment, discipline, welfare, security, health, and transport.
• Secretary to Management Committee of the Centre.
• Assist in job design, the recruitment of staff according to NIMR's policy and needs and the maintenance of appropriate number for on –going work.
• To represent the Institute/Centre in Reconciliation Boards, Industrial Court of Tanzania, hearings and negotiations with Workers' Union and other authorities on disciplinary matters.
• To supervise maintenance programmes for Estate management, motor vehicles, furniture, office equipments and other facilities.

• Extensive knowledge and experience of NIMR System and Management will have added advantage
• Publications: At least eighteen publications in peer reviewed journal (First Author in at least five of them).
Skills and Abilities:
• Previous working experience in research preferably as Director or Head of Department.
• Experience in management of research and Administrations
Duties and Responsibilities
• Shall be the Scientific and Administrative head of the respective Centre and as such shall be responsible to the Director General through the HQ Directors for maintaining an efficient and effective management of the Centre.
• Promote excellence in research programmes of the Centre;
• Guide the Centre with respect to research by setting goals and standards, by supporting initiatives and new directions and by personal example;
• Coo-ordinate research commitments in consultation with Heads/Coordiantors of research programme units
• Identify Centre research agenda and set priorities in consultation with Centre research units and staff;
• Plan for future of the Centre with regards to new research programmes, and be actively involved in mobilizing
• Must have at least five years post qualification experience in a senior position at a reputable public Institution.
