The Jane Good all Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ), is a reputable and rapidly expanding Non-Governmental Organization, committed to Wildlife Research, Education and Conservation. JGI Tanzania has obtained funding to implement a project on “Building Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) Readiness in the Masito Ugalla Ecosystem Pilot Area in Support of Tanzania's National REDD Strategy”. This is a three year Project (January 2010-December 2012), funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). JGI Tanzania is now seeking to recruit suitably qualified and competent Tanzania to fill in the position of Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.
Position Title: Monitoring and Evaluation officer – (one position – Kigoma Municipality)
Reports to: REDD Project Director
Position Summary:
JGI believes that, strategic project monitoring and evaluation is critical to measuring progress, adjusting strategies and project implementation, enhancing programmatic impact and achieving desired results. The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania has established results frameworks and performance monitoring plans (PMP) for project. The JGI Tanzania will recruit an M&E officer to assist the Project Director in Strengthening its M&E capability across all project components including, tracking, interpreting, analyzing and recording all data related to the project performance, indicators, outputs and reporting.
Duty Station: Kigoma Municipality
Major Responsibilities:
• Conducting M&E in-house training for the Project staff to build their capacity to:
* Review/update the Project “Results Frameworks” and “Performance Management Plans” at the strategic, project and operations levels;
* Provide accurate, appropriate and timely information to assess project progress against indicators and the achievement of intermediate results, strategic objectives and goals;
* Synthesize data to inform the project on what works and does not work;
* Conduct impact analysis to determine if the integrated REDD interventions produce the desired impact and document that impact for use in assessing the achievement of results and objectives;
* Track project outcomes, methods, progress, success stories, lessons learned and best practices for dissemination to donors, and more widely to the conservation and development communities.

• Developing and instituting a standard progress report for dissemination to donors, partners and stakeholders designed to ensure comprehensive periodic reporting on progress indicators, intermediate results and the achievements of objectives.
• Consulting and reviewing the project results framework and PMP to identify issues and recommend adjustments and improvements, where needed, to ensure appropriate and realistic measures;
• Developing model terms-of-reference for REDD project evaluations;
• Developing Information Management System and appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools for the REDD Project;
• Facilitating and coordinating data collection and analysis;
• Establishing data bank for program related activities for operational and managerial use;
• Training project personnel on data collection, handling and management and ensuring data quality, reliability and relevancy;
• Communicate monitoring and evaluation results to different stakeholders whenever appropriate and required; and
• Advising the Project Director on the Management Information Systems.
• Performing any other duty as assigned by Project Director.
Qualifications/Education
• A bachelor degree or Masters in Environmental Sciences/ Climate change/Natural Resources Management/ or other related fields plus at least two years of practical working experience in Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
• Timely report writing skills
• Good planning, management and communication skills
• Competence in statistics is preferably
• Computer knowledge preferably in a windows environment 1.e word, excel, power point and related accounting packages.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, high sense of responsibility and excellent organization skills
• Excellent command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili languages
• Team work spirit and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
