IGC Office Manager
I. Background:
The International Growth Centre (IGC) promotes sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demandled
policy advice based on frontier research. The IGC is directed and organized from hubs at the London School of
Economics and the University of Oxford and comprises country offices across the developing world and a global
network of partners. The IGC was initiated by and is funded by the United Kingdom Department for International
Development.
The IGC is recruiting an Office Manager (OM) who will be responsible for the smooth operation of the IGC's
country programme in Rwanda, including issues related to office activities, equipment, communications,
maintenance contracts, organizing logistics for in-country events, and liaising with the IGC Hub based in London.
The OM works closely with the country director, economists, and rest of the country team. The Office Manager
reports to the Country Director.
II. Tasks:
1. Undertake secretarial duties such as to answering the telephone, taking messages, sending/receiving faxes,
photocopying documents, binding reports, and receiving all visitors to IGC office. Responsible for arranging
appointments for all members of Country Team;
2. Support correspondence and communication: draft correspondence, respond to routine correspondence, log all
mail received, and undertake necessary follow-up;
3. Responsible for ensuring implementation of effective IGC branding, in all forms of communication, interpersonal
interaction, and publications with which the Office Manager assists;
4. Help to create and maintain database of contacts for Country Team, including but not limited to those in the
government, business, and civil society sectors;
5. Accommodate and assist Country Team with all office needs, ensuring smooth operation of ongoing office
administrative functions including: environment, space, equipment etc.
6. Act as central point of contact for any administrative-related issues to determine appropriate action;
7. Coordinate in-country events & work with country team to lead on booking of venues,issuing invites for
attendees, preparing relevant materials for events, booking travel and accommodation for delegates attending the
event, and other logistical tasks. This includes working with other Country Team members on publicity for events,
press releases, and other related tasks;
8. Liaise regularly with IGC Hub. Assist in preparation of all reports from the Country programme office to IGC Hub
and UK's Department for International Development (DFID);
9. Managing everyday office expenses,
Regularly submit invoices, expenses and receipts to IGC Hub, London School
of Economics and Political Science, and/or IGC's operational partner on behalf of the Country Team.
III. Skills and Experience:
1. Proven ability to plan and manage complex administrative activities and processes; demonstrate initiative and
sound judgment; and a proven ability to respond quickly, independently, and appropriately to competing priorities
under tight deadlines. Ability to multi-task is essential.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with people of various
backgrounds and cultures.
3. Very high level of proficiency in both English and Kinyarwanda. Strong oral and written communication skills.
4. Robust command of the Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
5. This position requires at least three years of relevant work experience.
6. Past experience with conference and events planning is highly desirable.
7. Education to university level is desirable.
8. Previous experience with an international organization would be an advantage.
IV. Terms of Employment:
Consultancy contract with KPMG East Africa for the period until March 31st, 2012, with possibility for renewal

An attractive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered to successful candidate.
