Oxfam International Seeks Tanzania Country Director

We are looking for an exceptional, strategic leader with a passion for Oxfam’s work to head our programme in Tanzania
Four year contract with competitive salary. An attractive package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. This will include a net salary, meaning that Oxfam will pay 100% of any tax and social security liabilities relating to your employment. You will also receive benefits tailored to your individual contract. Based in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Oxfam, one of the leading global development organisations, mobilises the power of people against poverty. We are a diverse confederation of 17 strongly interconnected national affiliates working in over 90 countries, either directly, or with partners to enable transformational change, using a unique combination of long-term development, campaigning and humanitarian programmes.
Tanzania, a country of 47 million people, is regarded as one of the more politically stable countries in the region and the continent. It has a long-term development trajectory framed by the Tanzania Development Vision that aims to transform the country into a middle-income economy by 2025 by focusing on increasing growth and reducing poverty. The country is largely rural and agrarian. The continued neglect of the agricultural sector and marginalisation of vulnerable rural communities such as pastoralists, smallholder farmers and communities in remote areas continue to plague Tanzania. Access to health services for poor people remains a challenge due to mandatory contributions and in the education sector, while enrolment rates have improved, the challenge of inequality still persists. Some of these inequalities are associated with the distribution of income, some with enormous differences between regions in the provision of basic services. Whereas Tanzanian law asserts equal land ownership rights, in practice, discrimination against women reduces their access to, and ownership of land. Tanzanian law does not protect economic rights for women and systematic discrimination based on sex is often built into laws. Oxfam’s strategy is Tanzania is to contribute to a social change process that substantively impacts on the situation of rural poverty, women discrimination, food insecurity, conflict and vulnerability in the country to strengthen poor people’s rights, voices and resilience with focus on poor women and young people.
