The Position Summary:
The Driver/Field Assistant has the responsibility of driving field staff to the various research sites in Tanzania and provides technical service to CIAT vehicles. The Driver will work closely with scientists, support staff in various projects. This position is based in Arusha, Tanzania.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive CIAT project’s vehicles during field and survey activities.
Assist field technicians during fieldwork – including GPS navigation, data-entry in field, and various field measurements and sampling.
Conduct maintenance and make necessary repairs of field vehicles while in field.
When not in field:
Welcome mission members and drop them off at the airport.
Ensure distribution of node couriers.
Assist the administration in errands and processes of the project (meetings, seminars, etc.)
Maintain a roll for monitoring and maintenance of vehicles.
Assist the administration in the preparation of the report on monthly movement of vehicles.
Provide all other tasks related to the post and as assigned by the administration.
Requirements:
Minimum of O-level certificate of secondary education or similar level.
Minimum 3 years’ experience preferably in an international organization with regional exposure.
Clean and valid class C driving license and certificate of good conduct.
Mechanical training will be an added advantage.
Computer training or good knowledge and experience in the use of computers.
Experience with GPS navigation and maps will be an added advantage.
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
Highly organized and possess good interpersonal skills.
Speak both Swahili and English language fluently.
Possess good written and oral communication skills.
Terms of employment:
The position is nationally recruited and based at the CIAT Offices in Arusha, Tanzania. The contract will be for a one-year period, subject to probation period of three (3) months, renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
