TRADE DEVELOPMENT
MANAGER VACANCY
The British High Commission is seeking to
appoint a Trade Development Manager in its Trade and Investment Department
(UKTI) beginning mid May 2014.
UKTI is the United Kingdom Government’s international business
development agency. The UKTI team in Tanzania is charged with trade development
between the UK and Tanzania, assisting Tanzanian companies looking to set up
operations or expand in the UK and alerting and informing British businesses about
opportunities in Tanzania. The team also contributes to Her Majesty’s
Government’s work on the Prosperity agenda through working alongside Foreign
& Commonwealth Office and Department for International Development
colleagues on the UK-Tanzania High Level Partnership providing high quality
advice and analysis regarding the business environment and commercial potential
in market.
This is a great
opportunity to work in an exciting and challenging environment on a high
profile agenda within the British High Commission. The Trade Development
Manager will be a confident self-starter, have excellent communication, team
leadership and management skills, ability to network with a wide range of
contacts and manage budgets effectively.
The successful candidate will need to undergo background checks and security
clearance.
Main Responsibilities:
- Support
the set up and running of a British Chamber of Commerce jointly with the
British Business Group in Tanzania.
- Provide
support and work alongside the Head of UKTI Tanzania, contributing towards
the East Africa Oil and Gas High Value Opportunity (HVO), deputise in
his/her absence and manage staff.
- Act
as the first point of contact for British Businesses in Tanzania. Provide
advice to potential investors and businesses highlighting commercially
related opportunities and developments.
- Promote
Tanzania as a destination with potential for focussed quality Trade
Missions relevant to local commercial opportunities and ensure that the
profile of the Tanzanian market is raised in the UK, resulting in
increased trade figures, and other pre-determined targets.
- Maintain
an effective network of contacts, especially in the Financial Services,
Agriculture, ICT and other growth sectors, across Tanzanian government
ministries, relevant organisations/associations and the private sector.
- Undertake
research, and produce high quality reports on trade and investment
opportunities and ensure that UKTI Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
and market research targets are met through promotion of UKTI services.
- Support
the UK’s Prosperity agenda through robust analysis of the business climate
and relevant reform agendas, by contributing alongside other colleagues
towards the UK-Tanzania High Level Partnership.
Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s
degree in Business Administration or related fields
·
Minimum
3 years full-time professional experience, preferably in international business
or marketing
·
A proven track record of fostering
business relationships or a demonstrated understanding of commercial enterprise
·
Ability
to speak credibly with senior representatives of public and private sector
organisations
·
Understanding
of international/regional/Tanzanian trade and investment issues
·
Knowledge
of UK and Tanzania domestic / foreign affairs is desirable.

Fluency in written and
oral English and Swahili
·
Excellent
research and report writing skills
·
Ability
to prioritise, effectively manage and execute multiple tasks to a high
standard, both through individual and team delivery
·
Attention
to detail and good follow up discipline
·
Ability
to excel in a collaborative team environment
·
Strength
in MS Office, Excel, and Outlook

Compensation package:
The gross monthly salary for the position is Tsh 2,344,306 plus pension and medical
insurance. Appointment will be under local terms and conditions, and is subject
to medical and security clearance.
