We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow in Medical Entomology to coordinate and manage the entomology component of a randomized control trial evaluating a novel long lasting insecticidal net and indoor residual spray product, separately and together, against malaria transmitted by pyrethroid resistant mosquitoes. The project is based at the field site in Muleba, Kagera Region, Tanzania, in collaboration with the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College KCMUCo and the National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR).
The candidate will lead the entomology activities including various trapping methods to evaluate the impact of the intervention on biting, resting and age of the vectors, to monitor the quality of the vector control intervention and to follow impact of the intervention on resistance in the main vectors. He/she will liaise with scientists in the projects to organise the other activities such as mapping and cross sectional surveys. The applicant will be based in Muleba with travel to Moshi when required and international travel for project meetings.
The candidate will be responsible for liaising with project partners including LSHTM, KCMUCo, NIMR, the Muleba District Medical Office and other district representative and for preparing technical reports and publications.
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in entomology, several years’ experience of working in similar positions in developing countries on vector research and control.
The post is available from 1 April 2014 until 31 March 2016. The salary will be on the Academic Pathway Research Fellow (grade 6) from £36,378 - £41,313 per annum. Appointment of salary will normally be at the minimum of the grade.
