POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Background:
Childreach Tanzania is a locally registered charity working in partnership with government primary schools and local communities in Tanzania towards improving children’s access to healthcare, education and child rights and protection.
We are looking to recruit a Programmes Manager, whose role is to lead Childreach Tanzania's programmes department, including research and identification of new projects, conducting needs assessment, overseeing the implementation and monitoring of projects, reporting, capacity building for programmes team and networking with like-minded organisations. The role also involves putting together proposals and funding applications to a variety of donors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· To lead the identification of new projects, carrying out needs assessments, due diligence for new partners
· To lead the development of project proposals and budgets
· To participate in formulating criteria for identifying and supporting projects
· To supervise and participate in community mobilization meetings
· To supervise and monitor ongoing projects, ensuring that project activities are accomplished on time and to the desired quality and quantity.
· To maintain strong relationships with project partners and government officials, offering advice and technical support as required
· To develop and submit funding applications to local and international donors
· To supervise and provide leadership to Childreach Tanzania programmes team
· Take part in conducting performance appraisal for Programmes team
· To prepare programmes’ narrative and financial reports as per Childreach Tanzania and/or donor requirements
· Be conversant with Project Management – including design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
· To take part in the preparation of Childreach Tanzania’s Strategy Papers
· To act as a liaison between Childreach Tanzania and the communities with whom Childreach Tanzania works
· To actively network with like-minded organisations, and other stakeholders in the development sector and seek to inform and influence policy
Qualifications Required:
· A degree Community Development or its equivalent
· At least 5 years of experience in Project Management
· At least 2 years experience leading and working with dynamic teams
· Evidence of having successfully secured institutional grants
· Experience in designing projects from scratch
· Understanding of rights-based programming
· Proven experience of conducting needs assessments and evaluations
· Knowledge of International Development issues
· Excellent communication and report-writing skills
· Willingness to travel to rural and remote areas
· Good presentation skills
· Good team player with self-motivation
· Willingness and ability to support colleagues
· Experience in Child Rights and Protection projects will be an added advantage
· Confidence and ability to engage with children and officials alike
· A strong sense of best practice
Expected start date: May 2014
