The International lnstitute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a member of a world-wide network of International Agricultural Research Centers. /ITA's research focuses on smallholder cropping systems in sub-Saharan Africa. /ITA has a regional hub in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which co-ordinates the work of the Institute in East Africa. /ITA seek to recruit two positions under the project Putting Nitrogen to work for smallholder farmers in Africa (N2 Africa) in Tanzania.
The BOO will be based at /ITA-Dar es Salaam Office with fieldwork travels to project sites in Mtwara, Southern Highlands, Lushoto, Kilimanjaro and Arusha
The data analyst will be based at IITA-Dar es Salaam with fieldwork travels to project sites in Mtwara, Southern Highlands, Lushoto, Kilimanjaro and Arusha.
Responsibilities:
The purpose of the position is to ensure acquisition of appropriate and quality data, from the project research trials, analysis and reporting for smooth implementation and achievement of the project goals. The Data Analyst will report to the N2Africa Country Coordinator. He or she will be responsible for project data management and more specifically:
Offer training and support to field teams and dissemination partners in establishment of agronomic research trials; Develop instruments for collection of quality data from agronomic trials and socio economic studies; Be responsible for entry of data, analysis and synthesis of outputs of analysis draw correct and logical conclusions; Responsible for storage of all the project research data and sharing it with the Senior project data analyst; Write summary reports from the data outputs and contribute to writing of technical reports and manuscripts ;Inform liT A and other project partners about the progress achieved and ensure timely output and feedback; Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
MSc in any of the disciblines of Soil Science, Agronomy with competences in Biometrics/ statistics from a highly recognized University!
Two (2) years' experiehce on agronomic field experimentation and research data management
Core competences
Capability of organizing, managing, and participating in agricultural and socio- economic researc~ including design of experimental and socioeconomic research protocols
At least two years' experience in analysis and general management of research data Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative analyses will be an added advantage
Knowledge and ability to use of data analysis packages such as, Genstat, SPSS , Starter, SAS, etc. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
Good communication skills

The initial contract for the position is for two years: renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
