About MCR :
Miracle Corners Rwanda (MCR)’s mission is to empower young people to become positive agents of change, improve their lives and help their communities. To this end, MCR has constructed a youth community center in Bugesera District, Nyamata sector which will offer a variety of activities focusing on skills training and social programming. Current and future offerings will include English language instruction, tailoring, ICT training, entrepreneurship education, select vocational training courses, trauma counseling and youth activities. MCR is part of the MCW Global Community, based in New York.
Role Description :
General
The MCR Country Director is responsible for executing the mission, goals and objectives of MCR and its programs and activities. Based on strategic guidance provided by the MCR Board of Directors, as well as the MCW staff in New York, s/he manages MCR daily operations, including developing and implementing programs, tracking performance and reporting, identifying best practices and lessons learned, partnership development and team building, external relations (e.g. with neighborhood, MCW NY, donors, etc.), Board of Directors coordination, and trouble shooting. In addition, s/he is responsible for tracking and monitoring funds. S/he reports to the MCR Board of Directors and to the MCW Director of the Community Development Initiative.
Responsibilities
a. Vision and Values
Uphold and strengthen the MCW Global Community’s (1) mission of empowering youth to be positive agents of change in their community, (2) core values of integrity, compassion, accountability, responsibility and excellence, and (3) constitution.
b. Governance
- Coordinates and facilitates regular board communications and activities ;
- Works closely with the MCR Board of Directors to execute strategic plans, policies, and goals ;
- Involves the MCR Board in areas of organsiational and programmatic planning ;
- Attends all Board meetings, proposes an agenda, and drafts and submits meeting minutes to the Board.
- Performs an annual self-assessment of performance for review by the Board of Directors.
c. Finance
- Serves as one of three bank account signatories for the MCR account ;
- Collects MCR revenue from the community center and IGAs pursuant to set finance policies and deposits weekly into the MCR account. ;
- Requests funds for expenditures for approved program areas pursuant to set finance policies ; o Maintains records of expenditures ;
- Develops and monitors the annual budget ;
- Oversees staff salary payments and statutory deductions ;
- Manages petty cash ;
- Manages MCR bank account.
d. Human Resources
- Recruits staff as needed based on recommendations from the Board Human Resources Committee ;
- Manages, mentors, motivates, and encourages staff to set and achieve individual and shared goals ; to develop, plan and implement their ideas ; and to fulfill their roles. o Conducts annual performance reviews for all staff members.
e. Administration, Monitoring and Reporting
- Ensures MCR’s investments (e.g. infrastructure, inventories) are protected ;
- Ensures MCR maintains registration as a non-profit organization with the Rwanda Governance Board ;
- Handles district/government inquiries and communications ;
- Tracks, records and monitors program participants and beneficiary data through MCW Capture ; o Markets the organisation to ensure (1) participants are recruited to programming and (2) MCR has a positive relationship with the local community and with the country as a whole ; o Submits weekly activity reports to the Board of Directors.
- Submits monthly summary reports to the Board of Directors and MCW.
f. Other duties as assigned.
Provide logistical support to MCW New York and MCW friends and Partners in country on certain occasions.
Skills required
MCR is looking for a qualified candidate who is committed, motivated, entrepreneurial and possesses a good heart and passion to help his/her community.
The candidate should possess :
- A bachelor’s degree in management, education, public relations or other related field ;
- Experience in education, management and accounting ;
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English language ;
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint ;
- Excellent communication skills ;
- Effective planning, assessment and record keeping ;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team ;
- Ability to work in the location of the center.
- Being a resident in the community where the center is located will be an added advantage.
