Job Description – General Manager Lubricants & SpecialitiesTanzania
(Based Dar es Salaam)
The purpose of this position is to lead, co-ordinate and manage in entirety the lubricants andspecialities business in Tanzania with accountability for financial and business results. To ensure that the business performs to its full potential, the incumbent will be responsible for all operational aspects of Sales, Finance, Technology, Human Resources and Health & Safety. To focus on material and sustainable markets leveraging our brand, partner/customer relationships and a cost disciplined approach:
Participation Strategy - prioritised geographic space/channel priorities
Competitive Strategy – brand distinction, outstanding relationship management, competitive cost positioning
Organizational Strategy: simple, effective, performance driven organization   

Reporting Relationships:

This role will report to the Managing Director Tanzania and will work closely internally with Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Administration and Legal Support Functions. Direct Reports to this role are in- country Specialities B2B Manager, Specialities B2C Manager, Marketing & Brand Coordinator and Lubricants Supplies & Production Manager.

Accountabilities:

-        Accountable for the volume, gross margin, profit, cash cost, working capital and health & safety performance
-        Accountable for the development of sales & marketing strategies and tactics across thespecialities business to underpin and deliver targeted top and bottom line performance, and to materially fast track growth of sales and penetration of customer segments aligned to strategic focus
-        Accountable for the development of sales and marketing strategies in the markets that deliver and secure ongoing competitive advantage over the longer term, that are aligned to the broader company initiatives, and that help meet shorter term customer needs which serve to underpin ongoing business performance
-        Accountable for the application of resources (people, expense budgets, capital budgets)to maximise profits and match profit streams to strategic imperatives through direct control or appropriate delegation of such control to direct reports 
-        Accountable for developing the capabilities of team members and distributors to deliver differentiated customer offers based on clear value selling propositions and customer relationship management
-        Accountable for the development and operations along the value chain in conjunction with Operations to maximise returns and build and maintain a key source of competitive advantage
-        Responsible for ensuring transfer of best practice – internal and external – driving strategy implementation underpinning the development of the business, strengthening channels of trade and creating a superior and differentiated offer for distributors and customers alike
-        Develop, coach and motivate direct reports in successful delivery of business and functional objectives, and in their individual development.
-        Interact and work closely with all key functional managers including Supply Chain, Marketing, Business Development, Finance, Human Resources, Legal & Administration
-        To ensure that areas of under-performance are quickly addressed and rectified
-        Support staff in developing excellent relationships with key third parties – distributors, customers and suppliers
-        Leading change – to provide a sense of purpose and ensure that the business is positioned for continuous improvement
-        Lead, manage and coach various teams/team members to strive for operational excellence and business success    

Essential Experience:

-        Proven expertise in broad-based business experience focused in Sales, Marketing and General Management including managing large territory and diverse operations
-        Proven success in senior leadership roles having led a diverse group of strong professionals, Staff and Distributors alike
-        Flexibility of thought and action to be able to respond to changing market environments and dynamic business situations
-        Track record of delivering value from key partner and customer relationships and offer development and positioning
-        Proven strategic thinking and perspective complimented by operationally excellent delivery

The role is 90% operational, meaning in the field at customers and developing new business in support of the team. Extensive travel within Tanzania will be required as well as on a requested basis supporting and advising the Associate Companies in the region
Role will report to MD Tanzania, direct reports to the role as follows:
Lubricants B2B Manager – focus customer segments Industrial, Institutions, Transport, Workshops, Mining & Marine
Lubricants B2C Manager – Distributor and Reseller Management
Lubricants Supply Planning & Production Manager
Marketing & Brand Coordinator
The role will have full responsibility for managing the Lubricants Blending & Filling and Base Oil Supply Contracts in Dar es Salaam   
The role will have full accountability for Tanzania LPG sales and marketing activities
Current Lubricants Dimensions of Role:
-       Senior Member of Country Leadership Team
-       Expected to deputize as shared responsibility with General Manager Fuels & Retail as Acting Managing Director in MD’s absence
-       Expected to act as Company Officer / Signatory
-       Comfortable at operating within senior levels of Government i.e. Ministry of Mineral & Energy Affairs, Petroleum Regulator EWURA, Tanzania Tax Authority, Tanzania Port Authority, Regional Government Authorities, etc  
-       Comfortable at addressing seminars, exhibitions and like
-       An understanding of the dynamics/complexities of working and doing business in Tanzania
-       Tolerant, understanding, listening, facilitating – critical  behaviors for success
-       Management of change – people & behaviors, organization & processes, material step change performance
