The Information Architect - Information Design (IA-ID) position will be esponsible for performing a co-lead role in the research and design efforts for the IRRI’s online shared information environments--external and internal-facing systems--and online communication platforms used by the Institute.
This position will work within the Digital and Online Media Group and directly work with function, service and product teams in the organization to design, continuously develop and manage the architecture of the different shared online environments such as the Internet, Web, and online media.
The IA-ID facilitates the shaping of the organization’s information products and experiences to support usability and findability of information and to constantly improve the shared environment’s performance, its usability and its effectiveness.
The IA-ID position will bring substantial experience to aligning and linking the organization’s online shared information environments with the communication objectives of the Institute.
Major accountabilities/Responsibilities
● Organize, re-organize, label, and design the information architecture of the Institute as a response to strategic directions and as it applies to online interfaces of the Institute’s internal- and external-facing platforms that are dynamic and ever-changing
● Design innovative and effective human-computer interfaces for existing and new information services
● Aggressively respond to analytics, strategic shifts, and usability testing results, using mock-ups, prototypes, user flows, and detailed information design specification documents to define and communicate interface concepts and requirements, ensuring consistency and ease of use for both internal and external online interfaces
● Collaborate and co-create responsive online information and communication services with Institute service managers, content providers, technologists, and cross-functional teams including representatives from research, training, public relations, information technology, information management, and communication.
● Initiate usability studies and surveys, set objectives, run test sessions, interpret results and review findings toward action and desired results in achieving objectives and goals for information and communication.
Qualification requirements
● 6 or more years in user interface design with experience in designing usable web-based interfaces, with mass-market consumer products and e-commerce sites preferred, proven knowledge and with a portfolio of work that has great results
● BA, BFA, BS degree in allied fields or equivalent experience or equivalent degrees and training
● Translates user research findings into design decisions
● Astutely distills and organizes large amounts of complex information into simple, useful, and usable application designs
● Creates detailed design specifications, proven project management skills
● Applies modular and systematic approaches to user experience design
● Designs navigation, interaction and nomenclature (labeling) systems
● Conducts heuristic analysis and assessments
● Proficient with rapid prototyping tools such as PhotoShop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver Director/Flash, Visio, etc
● Works with XML, HTML, DHTML & Javascript across Web platforms and media
● Exceptional people skills to be able to work with all levels and functions, consultative, and operates in an open collaboration environment
● Excellent written and spoken communication skills (both technical and non-technical)
● Understands user experience research objectives and design applications that achieve them.
